Publisher's Summary

Finding herself in a new home in Brighton, Kate Bradbury sets about transforming her barren backyard into a beautiful wildlife garden. But while she's doing this Kate's neighbours continue to pave their gardens, the wildlife she tries to save is further threatened and she feels she's fighting an uphill battle.

Is there any point in gardening for wildlife when everyone else is drowning the land in poison and cement? If the dead could return, what would they say about the land we have taken, the ancient routes we have carved up, the wildlife we have lost?

Wonderful listen

I downloaded this audio book on a off chance while searching for my next listen.
I am so glad I did. What a fantastic inspiring story of a garden brought back to life. It was interwoven with a memoir of the author.
Beautifully read by the author Kate Bradbury.
If just one person listening to this builds a garden to encourage wildlife, it will make our planet a better place In which to live.
It made me want to rush out and count the wildlife living in my wildlife garden.

Delightful and passionate

Just recently moved into a new house on a large housing estate, so I was hoping for some encouragement as well as entertainment. Delightfully written and engagingly read by the author herself. More autobiographical detail and modern sadness than I usually go for, but I turned down the volume for the medical bits, and waited for nature to reappear. Fine, knowledgeable and expressive detail on plants, birds and insects. I shall certainly do all I can to look after bees; and have come away hugely encouraged. Thank you.

Inspiring

This book has thoroughly transformed my approach to gardening. It’s full of beautiful knowledge about wildlife and the potential in our gardens and shines a light on how we are destroying habitats without even realising. I am no longer guilt ridden about my so called weeds...bonus!
Kate Bradbury writes an honest and inspiring account of her experiences of transforming her tiny outside space on a shoestring budget, whilst dealing with major changes in her life. A beautiful and inspiring read.

Inspiring

Inspiring, motivating, poignant, enjoyed listening, tears at times, beautifully read but there’s hope in there and it made me finish my small pond this weekend.

Amazing

Brilliantly poignant book, hard to listen to sometimes and made me cry but a book full of hope too.
