Maybe Good for a Novice

Lots of good info here, but too much bad info. Amateurs might not know the difference. Some of the bad info is dangerous. It does not take only three weeks to renovate a true fixer upper. You should not ignore transaction costs in 1031 exchanges. Writing down a plausible reason is not a good way to avoid discrimination, that only potentially avoids liability. Has this been peer reviewed? Does this guy have any financial qualifications? I don’t doubt his practical success but not every practitioner should be teaching. I’m a professional investment analyst. For some reason, investing books concerning public equities are held to a higher standard. I wish there was more rigor in the real estate investing space as well. I suggest you use this as a first step only if you are going to read it.

2017 Review

I almost didn't buy this audio book because of some of the reviews saying the narration wasn't edited or was poorly done. I think the author has updated/edited the narration since then because I didn't have any of the issues mentioned. Try the sample chapter if you're still unsure.

Lots of great advice and I've had a rental for 3 years now; I never would have had time to read this book so glad the audio version was available.

Terrific book, please change the word “ghetto.”

This book is fantastic—I’m learning a ton. It’s full of so much detail and is incredibly informative. I have one request. Please consider changing the words “ghetto” and “dangerous ghetto,” which I’ve heard a couple of times in the book. However unintentional, “ghetto” is often a pejorative term to describe low-income African-American neighborhoods.

Great info and performance

What made the experience of listening to The Book on Rental Property Investing the most enjoyable?

Great information for anyone considering investing in rental properties. I'm only at the point of doing research and this book is perfect for someone like me who needs everything explained clearly every step of the way.

I don't see why everyone is slamming Brandon's audio performance. Unless I have a new version that has been edited, I haven't found any of the comments bashing the performance to be true. One lady complaints about his enthusiasm... really? Personally I think Brandon did a great job and his enthusiasm keeps me engaged. I'm only several hours in but I've only heard one small stumble, nothing to tear the book apart for.

The book seems decent but the reading is awful.

Would you try another book from Brandon Turner and/or Brandon Turner?

I would consider reading another book but no more audio books thank you.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Book on Rental Property Investing?

The time in one of the earlier sections where Brandon stumbled over his line and restarted the sentence no less than three times.

What didn’t you like about Brandon Turner’s performance?

His enunciation is very poor and the recording is completely unedited.

Who do you think would benefit most from listening to The Book on Rental Property Investing?

Someone who is a beginner/novice real estate investor that has a lot of patience for a terrible performance.

Any additional comments?

Just pay for a professional read or at a minimum edit the current performance.

Worth Suffering Through the Terrible Performance

Yes, as others have stated, the performance was horrid and needs to be edited. HOWEVER, if you are serious about real estate investing, there is no other book that has this much meat and useful information. It's totally worth suffering through the performance. I hope this gets an update, but it's still at the top of my list of real estate investing books (and I've read a lot).

Not an edited book!

What didn’t you like about Brandon Turner’s performance?

This book was not edited! When he was speaking and messed up or stuttered, he would keep it in and say lets try it again. It was not professional at all. This really tarnishes the BP brand. I was really surprised. The book is for beginners if you already have a few rentals this isn't for you.

Quality Control!

Any additional comments?

Brandon... The book was great, with solid content. It was truthful in its own right, and I appreciate you mentioning the dynamics of the awful side of Buy-and-holds, which any investor is well aware.

However, I can tell that you didn't listen to this book even once after you finished the "performance" or lack there of. There is a complete lack of respect for the people who purchased this book for $17 and you provided the single worst reading performance audible has ever seen. Congrats! Seriously, you need to re-record this monstrosity and re-publish it. This is not a freshman year English composition paper you were too lazy to edit, this is a education product built for a large market of people looking for creative ways to obtain passive income. Get your act together.

Informative so at least read it

Very informative read/listen (I bought the Kindle edition too) for new investors and people doing initial research into the opportunity of rental property investing. There's countless plugs for their Bigger Pockets website but you should have already expected that.
I was very disappointed in the quality of the audiobook since it contains things like the narrator going "ugh let me start over" as he reread a mistakenly spoken sentence, or listening to him lick his lips throughout the book. Why not record those sections without the mistake, or hire a professional narrator?
Overall I recommend reading or listening to this book for the quality of the information if you're new to the game.

Editing

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

If it had actually been edited. The starts and stops are distracting.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The Jordan Spieth-like choke while trying narrate his own book.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

See prior answer.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I'm writing this only an hour in. Let me get back to you.

Any additional comments?

This is embarrassing. Who said this was ok to release un-edited?

Lots of good advice, but with drawbacks.

The advice is really useful, but the book is let down by the author taking each and every available opportunity to plug his website.
I honestly don't think there's even five minutes between one mention of his site and another, and there's plenty of times when the website gets plugged sentence after sentence. It got pretty tiring.

The reader isn't professional, and it showed. Although he was passionate about the subject ,he has some kind of feint lisp on some letters that I found frustrating to listen to, and his voice goes a bit odd at times, as though he's desperate for a drink and wasn't allowed anything. Minor annoyances, but they become very noticeable after a few hours.

He forgot to edit one section mid way through the reading and you can hear him fluff his lines and read then reread them a few times - which I found quite distracting.

Overall, a good book let down by the constant need to crowbar in adverts for the author's website, and some rudimentary problems with the recording of the book.

Waste of time

Complete waste of time, speaking more on why to do it, than how to do it. Audios like that should be banned from being sold.

Added Value

I liked the story behind his investing. He is honest and leaves no stone unturned. The book is specifically for American investors although a lot of what he says can be used in any country. Added value to me, gave me knowledge, happy with the book. The way he says roof is hilarious, not making fun of the author, just so funny!!

Motivation not information

This is basic inspirational American "You can do it! Believe in yourself!" bull... as opposed to information you can use. Some good examples, but unless you need a life coach, you'll be better off buying a different book. I personally suggest Rob Dix especially for the UK.

Detailed but highly US focussed

This book was well written and detailed, but as I live in Australia I was looking for something I could apply here. One of the reviews said they were Australian and this book was great which is why I decided to get it. Although there is a lot of good information in this book it’s very specific to the United States. Would definitely recommend it for American property investors, not so much for anyone anywhere else in the world.

I think I'd this better if I lived in the USA.

All though much of the advice is universal I felt there were too many references to American laws and lingo. I don't think this was made clear enough in the title.

Good content, too much promotion

Has a lot of useful insights and works through the numbers.

However, if i had a dollar for everytime the author mentioned his company. BiggerPockets.com then I don't think I'd need creative financing to fund my real estate journey
