A Ranger is Forged

The next chapter in the war against Sût the Undying and the Nether Sorcerer unfolds against the backdrop of what it takes to become a US Army Ranger.

The Rangers' next objective takes them on an odyssey of desperate survival and relentless combat through the Desert of Sleep, a savage and strange land...and a gateway to hell. Here the forces of darkness fester, here the elements of the Rangers must go on the ultimate patrol, and here is where the End War begins.

Loved the book as always, great action and attention to detail! The AAR was like someone telling my own life story, BCT and airborne 77, air assault 78, met Mike Kelso in 79, jump master school in 80, got out , got back in 82 in SF, ranger school in 83, SF school in 84, commissioned in 84 regular infantry, 4 tours in Iraq, retired in 2012! Rangers lead the Way! Mad Mac

A wild ride from start to finish! Love how this story is progressing. Great writing and narration as always.
The AAR is also the best one so far. It was awesome hearing from Ranger legend, "Mad" Max Mullen! Great stories he had to tell!

I am a fan of Jason and Nick, especially the universe, and characters, Jason created for the Galaxy’s Edge series. In my opinion, The Book of Joe, is the finest example of character development and dramatic action presented thus far. It’s a pretty long listen on Audible but it flies by as the authors effortlessly help you become invested in these characters, I didn’t want it to end and am looking forward to the next installment. I highly recommend The Book of Joe.

This is the 2nd best book in the series so far. If not for the originality of Book 1 in it’s genre, I’d call this my favorite. Regardless, it was great to have some content that was just about Talker and SGT Joe, as opposed to the previous books that includes all the Rangers. It provided opportunity for Talker to pull his head out of his ass, stop moping, and really grow as a character and Ranger. Loved it. Narration is as stellar as all the previous books. Highly recommended for fans of the Forgotten Ruin series.

These books are good, and the performance by CR Grant is fantastic. But some MAGA-ness that’s a little barfy is beginning to suffuse the narrative. I mean, no question that lots of people in academia are arrogant, condescending and exclusionary, believing that no one who has reached their heights of knowledge in their field is worthy….but doesn’t that describe Rangers perfectly too? So it’s justified in Rangers but an indication of a desire to rule the world in academics? (Barfing sound). And it’s truly pathetic and dangerous that so many children of the well-connected get cushy military ranks that aren’t even remotely earned. It’s been going on since the Revolution here, and has led to lots of unnecessary deaths of good soldiers. Yet somehow the only such person who gets mentioned in outrage is Hunter Biden, whose ridiculous rank never resulted in any deaths. Credibility of even-handedness much? Parts of the comments by tue authors in the “after-action reports” begin to sound like a Foxaganda talk show. Which is deeply disappointing to a reader who loves these author’s work, and hoped for something wiser and more…cosmopolitan, perhaps? Interestingly, none of the guest Rangers appear to go there, which is great. Discretion is the soul of valor. In everything. Except writing a frank book review, apparently.
The end of this particular book seems to have cut out several crucial (or at least desired) paragraphs between the genie and the final battle. That all feels like the cliff notes rather than the book. I wonder if a print deadline was pressing the work?
Having said all that, I’m right now buying the next book. So, yeah. Your mileage may vary, as it were.

Not as good, sadly

I like this book because talker finally comes to reality with being a ranger. I also like the monologue as he is living it

Think this was about the best book yet in the series. Now could of used a bit more coffee but a ranger is going to ranger regardless.

need more coffee for that last star
