Publisher's summary

The Thriller Award-winning series continues as Detective Jude Fontaine finds a decades-old connection to missing children that will freeze her blood.

A boy’s frozen body is found trapped in the ice of a Minneapolis lake. The horrifying discovery leads Detective Jude Fontaine and her partner, Uriah Ashby, to more bodies in the ice, all of twelve-year-old boys missing for twenty years.

Then, in one of the worst blizzards the city has ever seen, a four-year-old is abandoned on Jude’s doorstep. The child can’t tell them where he’s from, who his parents are, or how he got there. He doesn’t even know his name.

But in his unspoken language, Jude reads something horrifying - a connection to the dead boys. Now a four-year-old with no name may be the only key to a twenty-year-old, very cold case.

Amazing Book

The new Jude Fontaine series, I believe is Anne Frasier at her absolute best. She has creates such an intricate character and we are swept away with her trials and tribulations, her mod swings, her tragic history, her fight for justice for the victims, her sense of right and wrong, her caring personality even though she rarely shows it and most of all how she struggled to come back to some semblance of life. This 3rd installment was chilling. It was dark, and mysterious and heart wrenching. We see Jude become someone who does have the emotional capacity to care not only with the Boy but also with Uriah. I truly could not put this book down. However, I am so sad that this is the end of this wonderful character and all of the stories that could be told about her and the rest of the characters that inhabit her world. Thank you Anne Frasier for many amazing stories and the time spent enjoying them. Maybe if enough of your loyal fans tell you how upset they are about Jude not returning, you may change your mind. One can only hope!

Emily Sutton-Smith is one of the best narrators IMHO and she did not disappoint with the delivery of the story.

Amazin conclusion to an amazing trilogy!

The Body Counter (Detective Jude Fontaine Mysteries, #2), my eighth read from author Anne Frasier and the third & concluding(?) book in the Detective Jude Fontaine Mysteries. Outstanding police fiction. 9-hours 10-minute/300-pages. I'm voluntarily reading & reviewing it because every great book needs reviews. Narrator Emily Sutton-Smith's outstanding narration adds to the book's enjoyment. I look forward to reading more in this series & from this author. RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

Masterful

This author has taken a fairly large cast of (mainly) broken people and assembled them into a story so intricate and pragmatic it brings to mind the process of a master watchmaker creating a sophisticated timepiece.

These characters and this plot line aren't easy, friendly, charming, or fair. This author doesn't seem to be interested in tying up everything into a neat little ribbon for a happy ending. It seems more like she casts her characters into the story and lets it evolve into something more gritty, more realistic than my naturally "happily-ever-after" personality wants it to be.

That's not the complaint it might sound like. I am hugely impressed with this series because the stories are different and visceral, and don't end with nice little platitudes to make up for the reader having descended into chaos with the characters. This series is a breath of fresh air in a nearly over-published genre.

If you have not yet discovered the complex character of Jude Fontaine and her detective partner Uriah, I highly recommend you dive in. Start with the first book in the series, because the history is critically important to understanding both characters. But be prepared. This really isn't simple fiction. It involves abuse, kidnapping, rape, sociopaths, and their exceedingly broken victims. Each story in the series is brutal and stark, because that is Jude Fontaine's life.

Another great one

Such a clever back story with Jude Fontaine that it makes every book a more interesting story. Excellent narriation by Emily Sutton-Smith she really drives the story and brings to life every character. This third book of the series is another extraordinary addition to the life of Detective Jude Fontaine. The author continues to build strength to her main characters which make the mystery of whatever crime become more intense. I don't want to ruin the story by going into it and the summary gives a good review, no need to go into more detail and ruin the twists and mystery of the crime. All I will tell you is I highly recommend and hope for more books/audibles with Detective Jude Fontaine.
