sooo goood

Loved the characters the twists and turns. The storyline was good and the MC kicked ass. Will definitely read the next!!! 😆😆

Chunin exams meets divergent AMAZING

Full marks for both story and narration. I absolutely LOVED this story. It was a raw, brutal, high energy adventure and the plot twists continued to have me openly gaping while listening out in public. I absolutely cannot wait for the next installment.

Curious to see where it goes.

I struggled to finish this book because it was pretty dark and violent. I also got frustrated with the ongoing bad choices the main character makes. Her flaws are realistic given her context, it was just irritating to read about her jumping to conclusions over and over again.

Best book I’ve read in awhile

Suspenseful! Great book. Can’t wait to read the next one. Now I’m sick of this required word for a review!! Ugh

Bloody trials

This book had me holding my breath on so many different levels. I can’t wait to read the next book. April can’t come fast enough

Very good story very interesting

I was very intrigued by the sci-fi and how it over lapped the blood magic that was unique. Ikenna was a bit hot headed and she jumped to conclusions too quickly but I think that was grief she was dealing with. I was sad about the betrayals and losses she suffered. Can’t wait to see how it concludes in book two.

I loved this book! It made me laugh and made me cry at this brutal world.

I miss the characters already

The worst part about this book is that it ends and there's no second book out yet. Worse still, there's nothing else by this amazing author just yet. It's not fair!

Loved it

I like all of the books like this. Afro, fantasy, sci fi, training, strong female lead, soft versions of Octavia butler like stories. It’s worth the read. A little childish in some spots. It has some cursing. It would probably make a good PG-13 movie if you take some parts out. It had some good basic racial justices/culturally competent themes. I’ve preordered the next book in the series. That being said, it wasn’t mind blowing but it will keep your attention.
