Bloody good…with a caveat

Ooh, I do so love fierce FMCs. Charlotte may be a princess, but she’s a tigress with a blade or her tongue. I also love that she and Jorge are true to each other from start to finish (the way he let her fight her own battles, cheered her on, but was ready to jump in if she wanted was peak MMC).

This was vaguely like a reverse Cinderella meets Hunger Games, with Jorge being the lowly human, abused by his relatives, and Charlotte the Royal Princess who looks past class distinction. The Convergence gladiator plot didn’t quite make sense to me, but was I not entertained? Yes, I certainly was. It helped that it’s very cartoon levels of fighting, keeping the story focused on the adventure and the romance.

One big caveat before listening: This novella runs concurrently with the first one (The Beastly Crown). It also has flashbacks to the MCs childhood. Even having just listened to the prior story, I found this one choppy and confusing. At minimum, I recommend listening to the prior story. Besides: it’s just as enchanting.

As the first novella, this book was so entertaining! I would be happy to read more adventures of both couples. And hear Mr. Cresdin’s voice in my ears AGAIN!
