Exhausting book

Struggle to finish this. Really to much angst and issues.
Wish I did not spend my money on this.
Loved the narrator though!

Brilliant

Absolutely fabulous book - not one to put a big smile on your face, but does ask some big questions. I found it quite difficult to read at times due to the trials and tribulations that some of the characters go through.

The narrator is absolutely fabulous, I really can't say enough good things about him, every voice is differentiated, and at times it's difficult to believe they're all coming from one person. I'd personally have him do all books from now on!

Hugely recommended.

Brilliant!

If you've read the knife of never letting go, get this book! It's an amazing sequel. If you haven't read the knife of never letting go, get over there and get it, then come back for this. I'm hooked! Off to read monsters of men.

Keeps the story going

With the characters from the first book and a few new ones the story develops into a battle between fanatics. The theme being you can't trust warmongers - on any side.

Excellent second part!

Great follow up, and as said before it has been read superbly. So good that you'll have to buy the next one!

great sequel

Great story. Good narrator. He changes tone, pitch, pace etc to fit the story. However he uses the same voice for all characters. This means it is sometimes confusing as to whether it is Todd or Viola talking in the first person.

The audio jumps and misses bite out

This audiobook often cuts out (every 30-90secs) and misses a few seconds of audio. This gets really frustrating and makes the story harder to follow.

That being said, the story is fantastic and I loved it! The narrator is also great.

A stronger book than the first

A better book than the first with more characters and plot lines. More suitable for older teenagers.

Nothing resolved. Nothing gained. Nothing lost.

I found it remarkable how such a long book could have such little character change. While there were significant experiences endured by the main characters, by the end almost nothing at all has changed. The "good guys" are together. The "bad guys" are still there, undefeated. Again, it really feels like you could skip this whole book and you won't have missed much.

Aweful

Aweful. Repetitive. i really struggled to get through this story. I just dont care enough to find out what happens in next book. Narrator was pretty good but poor at female character voices.

Entertaining!

Beautifully written YA fiction. The concept of gendered noise is really clever and provides a nice commentary on our society. The price of innocence and the power of love are well exploited. The characters are well developed. The narration is beautiful, with each character distinct and memorable. I also really enjoyed the rendition of noise as a sound effect.

Heartstopping

I have read all of these books as they were released many years ago. But listening to them like this is so much better as I can see how much I skipped over in my excitement to find out what happens. What an incredible story. Part two in this brilliant trilogy is definitely full of action, drama and mystery. The narrator is amazing, really putting his heart into each of the characters. Can't wait to listen to the last one.
