Publisher's Summary
Brought to you by Penguin.
A killer who knows his trade.
A series of horrific murders seem disturbingly familiar to Detective Jane Rizzoli. They remind her and Forensic Pathologist Maura Isles of those committed by a killer known as the Surgeon, who they recently put behind bars.
While they’re still trying to track down the new killer, the unthinkable happens: the Surgeon escapes. Suddenly, Jane is chasing not one but two brilliant and twisted minds, united by one goal....
Critic Reviews
"Gerritsen was a medic before she turned to writing, and her book contains enough grisly details to put you off hospitals for life. But if you like your crime medicine strong, this will keep you gripped." (Mail on Sunday)

Narrator mispronounces Rizzoli
The story is good and the narrator give good performance aside from calling Rizzoli “RITZolli”… hard to tolerate having seen the show first, but good narration aside from that. Also the editing repeats twenty or thirty second a couple of times throughout.

The narrator has ruined it
This is highly disappointing, Tess I'm so sorry, I am a die hard R&I fan, this is my first time listening to the audio books, after Book 1 it's disappointing but Rizzoli does not have a T in it, this should have been picked up by editing before release. it's so irritating that I cannot even finish chapter 2. Please consider the mass feedback and re record. I will do it for free. this is productive criticism coming from love of the author and her creations.

Brilliantly disturbing
The storyline is genius, and the chacterisations are amazing. Who could come through the clutches of the killer twice? Only someone who has no off button. Brilliantly narrated.

Great story.
this really is a twisted tale, with well thought out plots that intersect and will be relevant in future books.
The narration wasn't bad though I did not like the voice given to Dr Maura Isles.
The big criticism here is in the editing. many lines are repeated and it becomes annoyingly invasive.

Enjoyable (even with a little bad editing)
Both the story and the narration were great, as always. The only downfall was the poor editing,
where the narration of a sentence was repeated in about four places. If you enjoy Tess Gerritson books though, then I would still recommend this book.

A sequel with bad audio
I was expecting this to be the next episode in the life of Jane Rizzoli but it was very much a sequel to the last and I think you would need to read the first one.
This also isn't very murder-mystery-esque. Unlike the first book where they deduced the killer's identity with clues this was more like an adventure book where the killer becomes revealed to them. Doesn't actually paint the main character in a very flattering light nor does the chip on her shoulder she has towards men in general although that character flaw is adressed somewhat.
Isles is a background character again which makes me wonder how many books were written before the series was called "Rizzoli & Isles".
The main problem though is the audio. I listened to this directly after the surgeon so noticed the change in narrator immediately. Not only are the voices different and Rizzoli's name now pronounced with a "T" but the voices get muddled by the narrator with women sometimes having the deep masculine voices of the colleagues they are conversing with while sometimes having their normal voices. Were it not for "he said" and "she said" you would have no chance of following.
Then there's the bad audio editting where whole sections of book are repeated verbatim. This becomes especially annoying in tense exciting bits and pulls you right out of the story. It's a real shame they couldn't make more of an effort in the editting.

Story gets better as it goes on
Better than the first book the characters are more likeable in this instalment. The crime story is fascinating and the villain had me intrigued. I enjoyed the character development of Jane. She showed growth and maturity in this book. Good audio performance overall too.

Rizzoli is difficult to like or care about
I was spoiled by having read and listened to The Surgeon. The whole cast was more interesting and multi dimensional. This was disjointed and most of the characters were either implausible or boring. Or both. I've read some of Tess Gerritsen's stand alone novels so I'll give this series another two books before I drop it.
