Based on the Herman Rosenblat Holocaust Memoir

Oprah called the tale of love in a concentration camp that lies at the heart of Holocaust survivor Herman Rosenblat's controversial memoir "the greatest love story ever told." But when his story is attacked as the greatest lie ever sold and his memoir is canceled, Rosenblat must defend his narrative. The Apple is the story behind the story. It first recounts Herman's authentic account of surviving Nazi concentration camps with his family. It then explores his made-up story of a girl he says helped him by tossing apples over the fence of a work camp, a girl he would encounter again in New York after the war and marry. Why did an old man embellish his Holocaust account with a romantic fiction which won him appearances on the Oprah Show that touched and inspired many, but also ignited a firestorm of criticism when his fabrication was uncovered.
