Publisher's Summary

In an apocalypse, there is definitely a beginning where mistakes are made and the seeds of evil are allowed to sprout and take shape. However, an end is not so certain. Once an apocalypse occurs, not even death is certain. Sometimes, death is only the beginning.

At first light that morning, Dr. Lee steps into the Walton facility on the first day of human trials and can barely contain her excitement. The labs are brand spanking new and everything is sharp and clean. They've been built to her specifications and are a scientist's dream. It's where cancer is going to be cured once and for all.

By midnight, it's a place of fire, of blood, and of death - a death that, like the apocalypse, is seemingly never ending.

Finally. What a great story.

This is great. The last 3 books I've purchased were so poorly written that I didn't finish them... But this one is outstanding with excellent narration. Very well thought out story. The zombies are cool... Actually gives perspectives from the zombies POV too! Honestly, this book is refreshing... Not just another predictable cookie cutter story with a main character that is annoying. Anyways, I listened the sample and it intrigued me, so I purchased the book. Very glad I did. It's one of those that has me wanting to listen even after my long drives are over.

Very good story.

I wasn't sure what to expect from reading the publishers summary, and then reading listener's reviews. I don't think many reviews or the summary did a very good job of describing this story. I will say this to try and help whom ever is reading my review. This isn't the typical zombie book, which is a good thing in my opinion. This story is about the origin of an outbreak. Some people aren't fully turned into zombies and you get some of their point of view. The rest is about how the people at ground zero react to what is happening and about how the disease spreads. It's worth the credit.

What I absolutely love are the zombies!

Here is another apocalypse but true to Peter Meredith's other books, they start at inception. The reader gets to know exactly what happened and every nuance that proceeded to create such a deadly world. There is so much that could have went right but of course this is an apocalypse so we get to sit back, eat some popcorn, and enjoy the bloody show!

The plot and characters in this are fantastic. It is amazing to know that it is just ONE DAY. ONE freaking day! After everything that happened I completely lost track of time and did not add up that these poor scientists had been fighting for their lives for just a day. This just blows my mind.

What I absolutely love are the zombies! This is a rage type of virus that allows the person to continue thinking as the disease progresses. They first get paranoid but as the virus progresses, they get more and more agitated, until finally they want to start killing people. More importantly, they start wanting to taste flesh and warm blood. Even more interesting, if someone else gets the virus then they smell different and the zombies know they will not taste good!

The characters are as real as they can be. Both heroic and frightened, seeking their own way out of the quagmire while putting other lives at risk. This is what always intrigues me about apocalyptic and dystopian genres, people can be full of such grace or of such evil.

I had the pleasure of listening to this and the audio was spot on! The voices of the people as they become zombies are harsh and full of what sounds like phlegm and bile. I could even hear when people were fully scared of everything around them, like the scene in the bar. This scene has stayed with me for some reason. Having to be a waitress during an apocalypse sounds horrible!

If you enjoy horror, this is a must read! Very fast paced.

Good listen

A break from the usual zombie books. Here the author actually draws out the path of infection... it's not book in which the characters wake up to a world filled with zombies . Refreshing

Another solid Peter Meredith story.

I am a big fan of Peter Meredith's writing. This book was a solid story for fans of the genre. I am a molecular biologist, so I really enjoyed the science and medical elements of the story. While not perfect from a cellular metabolism standpoint, it was well within the realm of acceptable for fiction! The narration was good, I did think the Arkansas accents were a bit over the top however. The story was a little slow getting going for the sake of character introduction, but they characters were great. I LOVE when a author manages to write a female scientist who can be professional and analytical without being horrible unlikable. I think this book is screaming for a sequel and I can't wait to listen.

Great start to what can be an outstanding series.

I like stories that jump right into action, this story was a little different. each character is nicely developed as is the creative cause of the zombie outbreak. The setting is consistent throughout the story (a situation I do not usually like) but it works in this story. looking forward to the next edition.

Not your ordinary Zombie story

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. It is something new and fresh. The story has to do with how the zombie apocalypse begins.

What did you like best about this story?

I loved how the story is based on the very beginning of the zombie apocalypse. It doesn't start with someone waking up, and the streets are covered with zombies. This has to do with how the infection started, and how fast it spread.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I like how you don't realize how fast the infection can spread. It takes just one person leaving the quarantined area, and hundreds were infected without even knowing.

Any additional comments?

This is my first time listening to a Peter Meredith book. You have a new fan here. I hope there are more books to follow this story. I will be watching for future releases.

not worth the listen

I love this genre and was very interested in a story that actually began at the beginning. Back story on how a plague begins seemed a great read. How wrong I was. The characters are terribly flat and stupid beyond reason. And the narrators female voices just make the women seem dumb and these are supposed to be scientists. I understand the premise of how mistakes early on can allow the spread of such a plague but the author made the mistakes grievous and numerous with characters you can't wait to die so you don't have to hear them anymore. I struggled to finish this listen hoping it would improve. It didn't. I have never had such a sense of relief after a book was finished. I won't be getting the next books. One and done is more than enough in this case.

Pretty Good Zombie Novel

Where does The Apocalypse Crusade: War of the Undead Day One rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Story wise it is pretty good compared to other audiobooks I've listened to, and the narration was well done as well.

What other book might you compare The Apocalypse Crusade: War of the Undead Day One to and why?

I'd say you could compare it to this writer's other novels, however, for some reason this appears to be a stand alone story as the other zombie novels by him don't appear to follow the same story line.

Not impressed

Poorly written, just bad writing! Characters are so two-dimensional that I didn't find myself attached to any of them.

Intriguingly different

Im already use to already or near smack damn apoc outbreaks with little to no early info on how the zpoc starts out.

This first books basically tells that prequel story some novel like series tend to do after. So infected undead type Zpoc.

I got this copy as a game reward on fb from participating. I wasnt asked or given with the thought that im expectes to review so...by typing this out u can at least tell its worth a read or listen.

be wary of racial wording but you'll end up realizing this story has a diverse background of characters. lots of racial teases imo. not crazy but its stuff people take for granted n joke online or bully. something u find most on the news from The US.

my one dislike and yet not is how one of the main characters/side chacter n ofc others well it took em 3/4 of the book/story so far to figure out a headshot. o.o sure i suppose center mass is the deal. uh a sort of dislike was how a big time pharma company had barely any security, some which seemed more like bouncers n the head guys were military in background. i suppose those were the only spoilers.

i could believe though the story how everything crashes all cuz well hey greedy foreign power wants to sabotage etc. shiz happens bla bla bla. Ive come from extinction cylce so this is a change of pace.

i feel tho the law enforcement or the thought of those in lesser settings were slightly bashed almost seeming incompetemt but then again quiet towns n low crime makes for complacent police forces.

Um i feel maybe the character back grounds were uneeded, i mean feels like filler info just to be patient zeros down the line lol. but hey thats story build up i suppose. props to that either way.

im curious about the first scene n i suspect its the lil girl from the end haha but anyways

story wise the book gets 4/5
overall i give its 5/5
Performace 10/10 cuz imo it hits a lot of low key probs america faces and accepts. lots of shady deals n more so how society seems to be. Feels authentic and believably so that i found my self laughing at times others scoring or hating on characters and rooting for em.

i hope there is more military involvement n survival aspects after this n fighting to escape extinction etc. i got hooked soo i expect more action. It was worth the listen and participation. I hope you too will enjoy.

Zombies, gore and more!

This was a great zombie apocalypse book. Loads of action and loads of gore ( maybe a little more than in my ideal - but it goes with flesh eating zombies). The narration was excellent. Will be back for book 2.
