Publisher's summary

I’ve come to Earth to hunt down a killer, not find a mate. But then I see her, and all I can think is...mine. Just one dangerous problem: My enemy knows she’s here...and he wants her for himself.

Cassie Anderson has been an orphan since the age of four. Left on her own, she grew up a hardworking, pragmatic woman of the Montana Territory, her steady employment at the Selby boarding house the only life she knows. When strange, sensual dreams drive her from her bed, her body heavy with desire and the scar on her palm burning, Cassie isn’t sure what to think. When the handsome stranger tempting her each night with stolen kisses and irresistible caresses suddenly appears in the flesh, she believes she’s truly lost her mind.

Maddox of Everis was born a hunter. Second son to a powerful ruling family, he volunteers for the dangerous journey to a faraway, primitive planet called Earth. His mission? To track down an evil foe responsible for his twin sister’s death. He’s come ready for the hunt, prepared to kill, if necessary, but he is not prepared for the mating mark on his hand to burn with sexual fire. Shocked but desperate to find his mate, Maddox will do whatever it takes to protect her from his enemy. He expects to find a mate eager to welcome him into her bed. But Cassie is an Earth woman, an orphan who has no idea who or what she is...not a simple cowgirl, but a descendant of ancient warriors who once colonized Earth.

Cassie is a powerful shock to his system, a woman he will do anything to possess. But when he tells her the truth, that he’s an alien bounty hunter and she’s his marked mate, she refuses to believe him. That is, until the dangerous madman he’s traveled across the galaxy to hunt finds her as well. Suddenly it’s not just Maddox’s skillful kiss forcing Cassie to rethink everything she thought she knew, but an evil alien bent on possessing her for himself. She’ll have to trust Maddox with both her life and her heart if they’re going to survive.

The male voice of the narrator was sexy. The female shooting the villain. Fast and fun

a rustic flavor in the Interstellar Brides series

The Alien's Mate is a "historical prequel" to the entire Interstellar Brides Program series from Grace Goodwin. So it's totally removed from the main storyline of the Hive war, Coalition planets, and Earthen politics. Set in the 1800s way out in the Montana Territory, this book is the story of an orphaned widowed descendant of Everian colonists who thinks she's human and her Hunter mate who's come to Earth from Everis to catch a killer.
After having read a Lot of IBP books, the historic western flare is a very cool change of pace. I can also see it as a good starting point for those wanting to read IBP in chronological order.
Something of note- for some reason The Alien's Mate is set as book 1 of "The Virgin's Series" of IBP however, as stated Very early on Cassie is in fact a widow. :)
Speaking to the Audiobook performance, most of Grace Goodwin's works get separate VAs for the 2 protagonists' perspectives. (This has pros and cons of its own when only listening and not reading along) However, The Alien's Mate is narrated entirely by Joshua Macrae and he does a lovely job of it.

The beginning.....

I love these stories! They are adventurous, funny, romantic, AND sexy! I also live how they all tie in together.

Loved the Story

I enjoyed the story line even though I was not sure I wanted to read about the time period. However, I truly enjoyed the narrative’s voices.

Only 1 male narrator is not pleasant

I have listened to many of the Insterstellar Bride books, & this one, having only 1 narrator, a male, is off-putting for the female characters. The female characters come off sounding weird & not pleasant. I love all of the Interstellar Bride books regardless of the series, & they all flow & interact with each other. So just as an FYI: The best way to listen to all the Interstellar books (bride, cyborg, beast, virgin) is to listen to them in order of release date & book #. Do not listen to them separately solely based on the individual series because all of the series' books interact with the characters & timelines from the other books in all the different Interstellar Bride series.

Loved The Romance

I had read other books in this series so this was one I had to go back to read. I’m glad I did because I like continuity. Particularly enjoyed the fact that the female lead character was not a whiner.
The other thing was the authors did not have the need to stretch the dangerous part out long enough to make me lose interest. Good read!

Just ok

I love Grace G’s books but foe some reason I didn’t care for this one. I could t decipher between the voices. The narrators didn’t change his voice. He just talked louder.

Set in the Montana Territory

Ok first. I got used to Mr. Macrae and even liked him. Though at times you had to pay attention to know who was speaking - which I find distracting.

That said, the only other thing I ever find frustrating about these books is the restating of the thinking or emotions several dozen times. I get it. We do it in our heads. I don’t need to be reminded repeatedly how a person feels or their motivation. A couple times yes, absolutely! We all get distracted. Even explaining how that character sees an event differently than others might— GG does this very well!! It adds depth to the story and moves it along so we don’t need the whole repeat repeat. But no matter how many repeats, and no matter how many times I wonder if it’s to fill a word count. I still really like the story.

Another sexy series.

If you've read any Grace Goodwin novels, you pretty much know what you're getting into. Another fun book in her galaxy. Fun to switch it up to take place on Earth this time.

I like to think of these as 'smutty in a good way'. But hey, everyone has their own boundary as far as what's tasteful or enjoyable to read. (Doesn't apply to this story, but as much as I love finishing an entire series, I just couldn't make it through the Goodwin novels with multiple partners.) Fair warning.
