Publisher's summary

A must-have guide to optimizing your life for wealth and success, from bestselling author, NYU professor, and co-host of the Pivot podcast Scott Galloway.

Today's workers have more opportunities and mobility than any generation before. They also face unprecedented challenges, including inflation, labor and housing shortages, and climate volatility. Even the notion of retirement is undergoing a profound rethink, as our life spans extend and our relationship with work evolves. In this environment, the tried-and-true financial advice our parents followed no longer applies. It's time for a new playbook.

In The Algebra of Wealth, Galloway lays bare the rules of financial success in today's economy. In his characteristic unvarnished, no-BS style, he explains what you need to know in order to better your chances for economic security no matter what. You’ll learn:

  • How to find and follow your talent, not your passion, when making career decisions
  • How to ride and optimize big economic waves (hard truth: market dynamics always trump individual achievement)
  • What small steps you can take that pay big returns later, including diversification and tax planning
  • How stoicism can help you minimize spending and develop better financial habits

Bursting with practical, game-changing advice from one of the world’s most popular business school professors, The Algebra of Wealth is the practical guidebook you need to win today’s wealth game.

Critic reviews

“Profoundly insightful and a joy to read. Few explain complicated topics better than Scott Galloway.”—Morgan Housel, New York Times bestselling author of The Psychology of Money

“The decisions you make at the beginning of your professional life have a compounding impact on your chances of success, and this invaluable guide will steer you toward an optimal outcome.”—Annie Duke, bestselling author of Thinking in Bets

The Algebra of Wealth is a book that is about far more than investing and wealth. It’s about how your life choices play out in your financial standing and wealth, and Scott delivers his lessons with humor and panache. I cannot recommend it strongly enough!"—Aswath Damodaran, professor of finance, Stern School of Business, NYU

Buy several copies!!

If you want to do something to improve the future of the country buy a few copies of this book, and give them to your kid, or any young person you want to see get ahead. Scott Galloway is knowledgeable, witty and self deprecating, but his authenticity is what screams at you. He isn’t just talking, he has done it, lived it and willing to take the time to reach back and give the next generation a hand up - grab it! He examines and redefines long held concepts, that no longer work. He exposes and lays bare the basic knowledge, that no one explains, but is vital to financial success. No get rich quick schemes here, just a tried and true formula. This is the book every sixty year old wishes someone had given them when they were 20 or 30. Can’t wait to put it in the hands of my Gen Z son.

Perfect for all generation but specifically Gen-Z

The timing of this book is excellent, taking into consideration the current economic cycle. Scott takes a wholestic approach on wealth building. Living beyond the spread sheet and apply human attributes into consideration such as time management, talent career alignment, and luck .Reminds me of the psychology of money but more action-oriented and in depth. This should be a staple book for many parents, teachers, mentors, mentees, and whomever seeking financial stability.

Life is so rich.

Book follows what he says in his writing and podcasts, but in a book delivered with brevity. I found all the information and stories to be familiar for those who have kept up with Scott over the years but for those who haven't it'll give them insights to those going through their careers.

Generic Mishmash

What a disappointment from a fan of Scott. This is just such generic advice you can get, for free, from anywhere online. And Scott on script is a monotone bore. Skip this and read Kara’s book a second time.
