5 stars if you're new to investing

It's a 5-star book for people new to investing. I didn't realize it was just a simplified version of his other books (which I own, and are excellent), so I'm giving this 3 stars because I wouldn't have ordered it had I known. Probably just my fault for not doing more research on it before I ordered.

It's similar in tone, depth and intended audience to "The Little Book that Beats the Markets" and I'd probably put it in my Top 5 recommend books for beginners:

1. Little Book that Beats the Markets
2. The Acquirer's Multiple
3. The 5 Rules for Successful Investing
4. Essays of Warren Buffett
5. Think Twice (or some other intro to Behavioral Psychology)

too basic

The author explains right up front that this is not a book for investors. He spends an inordinate amount of time explaining what the market cap is. I cannot help but give this the analogy, you are to make dynamite, however, safety issues will be skipped and detailed instructions will not be given. That said, I will study what I can about the author & his other works, he does show you where the path begins.

A Great Short Listen

Enjoyed Scott Pollak's typically excellent narration and I particularly enjoyed Tobey's discussion of operating earnings.

Smart author!

Tobias knows his stuff. Also has a very good value investing podcast. Seems like a great strategy if the transaction costs can be controlled.

TIP

Tobias Carlisle was on the investors podcast and I read this book, he’s quite versed in the stock market. Tobias has done a wonderful service by writing these books, I highly suggest this book and any content put out by him or the TIP Preston and Stig. Thanks for the book! I learned a lot.

Important to go back to basics sometimes and good anectodes

It’s good to go back to basics sometimes and forget about all the noise, as things are simpler than they actually look. Fun stories also make it a light content.

Horrible

This book not only has a lot of falsehoods in it but it is a pathetic excuse for an investment book people taking advice from this book will be much more worse off.

Would recommend

This was an excellent book which describes the basic principles of valuing a company.. I have been on Toby's website multiple times but never really knew how to use the screeners.. now I know..
I would recommend for anyone looking to gain some knowledge on the acquirers multiple number.. how its calculated and how to use it..

It's not too long either.. very manageable

A great start for Quantitative DeepValue Investing

Tobias explains the concepts underlying the Acquirer's Multiple and it's ability to identify deep value both in simple English and engagingly. A must for those getting started in deep value and quant analysis. If you want to get into the nitty gritty then it may leave you wanting more, in which case one of his other books I believe may dive in deeper.
