Publisher's Summary

The 21st century sniper is a mature, intelligent shooter who leverages technology to his deadly advantage. He has spent thousands of hours honing his skills. He is a master of concealment in all environments, from the mountains of Afghanistan to the crowded streets of Iraq. He is trained in science and left alone to create the unique art of the kill. To the sniper, the battlefield is like a painter’s blank canvas. It is his job to simultaneously utilize tools, training, and creativity to deliver devastating psychological impact upon the battlefield. And it is he alone who is left with the intimacy of the kill. A complete practical guide for any modern sniper, former Navy SEAL and military sniper Brandon Webb reveals the tips and basic training necessary to become an efficient marksman. Webb is an international authority on sniping, and after serving multiple missions in Iraq and Afghanistan, he ran the Navy SEAL sniper course, which is arguably the best sniper qualification course in the world. Including details on advanced sniper training for maritime, helicopter, and urban sniper operations, The 21st Century Sniper also touches on the latest research, development, testing, and evaluation of sniper weapons systems and optics. From trajectories and wind speed to camouflage and best vantage points and targets, Webb covers everything an expert sniper needs to know. This book is suitable for gun enthusiasts, outdoorsmen, the beginning sniper, and those with military backgrounds.

READ it, Don't Listen

Where does The 21st-Century Sniper rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Allen O'Rielly has no business narrating. He consistently mispronounced words, or overpronounced others. ".30-06" is not pronounced "point three zero to zero six". The points in the guns arent ever prnounced, and you definitely don't say "three zero to zero six".

He often stopped to catch his breathe, and semed generally inept. The book itself is great, focusing mostly on guns, tactis, and the history of the sniper. If you're looking for a book about that, then it's a great read. I stress READ unless they get some one else to narrorate this.

What did you like best about this story?

The "inside" story of snipers.

Would you be willing to try another one of Allen O'Reilly’s performances?

NO NO NO NO NO. I'd prefer a book narrorated by Gilbert Godfrey.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No. It's not even designed that way. You can, but it's easy to put back down and pick back up without worrying about what details you forgot.

Any additional comments?

I also reccomend Brandon Webb's "Benghazi: The Definitive Report" and it is worth noting that Glen Doherty (co-author of this book) died trying to save lives in the 9/11 Benghazi attack.

Great information but very poorly read.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I would edit the narration. Many terms are pronounced incorrectly and there are awkward pauses in speech that detract from the performance.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Brandon Webb

How could the performance have been better?

If someone better acquainted with the subject matter read the book.

Any additional comments?

Aside from obvious flaws in the narration this is a must read for anyone interested in firearms and the details of marksmanship.

Hard to finish

What did you like best about The 21st-Century Sniper? What did you like least?

Was not worth the time. If you have even slightly above average knowledge of firearms and or military experience this book is not for you. The narrator mispronounced 30-06, pronounced Lapua 3 different ways etc etc. I gleaned no new knowledge from this book.

Would you ever listen to anything by Brandon Webb and Glen Doherty again?

The Red Circle is a good read

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Mispronounced acronyms and read too fast

Was The 21st-Century Sniper worth the listening time?

No

So good I will by a hard copy to take notes

The programs wows. I'm sure all of the information is open source, but it is packed here in one spot. on a 1 out of 10 this book gets a 15.

I almost didn't get it because of the length I thought is was over priced. Now , i would pay double and in fact when I buy the hard copy it's exactly what I am doing. I'm glad this guy is a sheepdog and not a wolf.

Informative !

I like how detailed the author broke down each part of a rifle. I shoot a .300 win mag, learned alot about its function.

Not a keeper

Really short look at the history of and current practices of snipers. Even less on the future. No PDFs to download even though tables are referenced in the audio.

Sniper history and factors pretty well covered

Liked everything but had issues with the narrator being entirely unfamiliar with the terminology for firearms and bullet calibers. I'm surprised it was released with the pronunciations used.

Decent book

The only thing that drove me nuts was the narrator spelled out every acronym. Verses saying it phonetically lol.

Decent Basic level info, TERRIBLE reading

The info in this book is good, just very basic. Not a bad thing, just geared more towards a novice shooter. The reading of this book is absolutely terrible. I honestly can’t believe the author allowed the audio company to publicize the reading. The reader has no idea how to read ammo names/sizes, acronyms, anything technical. Incredibly frustrating to listen to. Could only listen to a little bit at a time because of how poorly it is read.

Some interesting information

Some interesting information about the very early days of shooting but most of the other I already know as I have been shooting for years and have had very professional shooting coaches.

A superb overview of sniping.

If you could sum up The 21st-Century Sniper in three words, what would they be?

Fascinating informative thorough

Who was your favorite character and why?

NA

Who might you have cast as narrator instead of Allen O'Reilly?

Anybody - he is the worst narrator I've heard on Audible. He mis-pronounces words, breaks sentences in totally inappropriate places and obviously has absolutely no idea of what he is narrating. At first I could forgive it but it happens time and time again and starts to really annoy you. How can you get lead (as in the metal bullets contain) confused with lead (as in 'you can lead a horse to water but you cannot make him drink') in a book about sniping?!?! This is just one of many mistakes. A pity because the book is awesome in every other respect.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Absolutely!! Very specialised but if shooting is your 'thing' and you can get over the terrible narrator then you will love it.
