Publisher's Summary

From actor and comedian Joel McHale comes the most important celebrity-penned book of this - or any - generation: Thanks for the Money: How to Use My Life Story to Become the Best Joel McHale You Can Be.

Part shocking tell-all memoir, part aspirational how-to guide, and mostly all book, this one-of-a-kind tome is required listening for anyone who enjoys Hollywood gossip and get-rich-gradually tips.

Joel McHale pulls back the curtain on his personal journey to stardom! Here, for the first time, Joel reveals all that has molded him into the acclaimed comic actor he is today: a love of performance, a series of boyhood head injuries, and, most importantly, a passion for financial compensation and free shoes.

It's all here: Joel's career trials and tribulations, his criminal trials and tribulations, and an honest, unflinching list of all the people he's been paid money to make out with on camera.

But the book does not stop there! Because if you want wealth, fame, and cost-free footwear, Joel will share every vital tip he has learned: an insanely low-carb diet plan, how to escape from a certain pseudoreligious celebrity cult, and more!

How can you unlock the power of the Joel McHale who lurks inside? What happened when Joel fought his Community costar Chevy Chase? And hey, while we're at it, what's up with Joel's hair - really? All will be revealed within the minutes of Thanks for the Money

No Real Focus.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Yes, I would have it be more about his life and not so all over the place.

Has Thanks for the Money turned you off from other books in this genre?

Maybe.

Which scene was your favorite?

When his brother fell out of the bed.

Could you see Thanks for the Money being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

No!

Any additional comments?

The book does not know what it wants to be. A joke book, a biography or a "How To" spoof. It's needs to pick one and stick with it. I like Joel and think he will go down as one of the funniest guys around, but this book is just to out there and hard to pay attention to because he has no real flow.

I found myself drifting in and out of thought and not really hearing the book, It just does not grab you like a book should and keep you interested. You will find you have drifted off into making a shopping list or what needs to be done in the garage this weekend. Not good!

If you like Joel McHale...

If you enjoyed the kinds of jokes made on the Soup about celebrities being vain and Joel McHale being a smug alcoholic, you will enjoy this. Listening to him read the book enhanced the experience.

Thanks for the Money

All I can say is "hysterical". Buying this book on Audible instead of just reading it was a great decision!

Laughed out loud

Loved it. I listen to audio books while I walk to work. This time I scared people as I giggled randomly.

Comedy any fan of Community will love

This book will make anyone who enjoyed Joel McHale’s performance on Community recognize a lot of his character Jeff Winger’s sarcastic wit is really McHale’s own. He’s simultaneously egotistical and self-deprecating in a way that’s just too funny not to find charming. Hearing this book in his own voice is the best way to experience it- it’s like one long stand-up performance. Just give him your money, he’ll make you feel it was well spent.

High Fiven’ White Guy!

I have loved Joel McHale since he was an intern on Seattle’s KING5 show “Almost Live”. I was thrilled when he was upgraded to a cast member and was in a skit called “The High Fiven’ White Guys” after Bill Nye the Science Guy left. I loved Joel on The Soup and Community and am happy that he’s a local boy done good.

Great for a Joel McHale fan

If you aren't already a fan of Joel McHale I don't know much much enjoyment you'll get from this but if you watched all 6 seasons of Community you'll probably enjoy it.

Anyway...

This is Joel being Joel! If you miss The Soup/The Joel McHale Show/Community you will enjoy this! Completely hilarious and easy listening with narration by Joel. McHale also gives the inside scoop on some of the great (and not so great) people he's worked with.

He’s Not Wrong.

I love Joel McHale, how he seems to ironically play a douchebag in his roles and on his talk show. After reading the book, I realize it’s not really an act. Still funny, though. Towards the end when it became some sort of guide to be a d-bag in Hollywood - it lost me.

Joel is awesome

This is a book "written" by a guy who by no means takes being a celebrity too seriously and I am thankful for it. This was a great book and I only hope his Avenger style promise of Joel McHale will return comes true, hopefully with more Chevy Chase stories.
