Acerca de esta escucha

A master class in the art of persuasion, as taught by professors ranging from Bart Simpson to Winston Churchill, newly revised and updated.

The time-tested secrets taught in this book include Cicero's three-step strategy for moving an audience to action and Honest Abe's Shameless Trick for lowering an audience's expectations. And it's also replete with contemporary techniques such as politicians' use of code language to appeal to specific groups and an eye-opening assortment of persuasive tricks, including the Eddie Haskell Ploy, the Belushi Paradigm, Stalin's Timing Secret, and the Yoda Technique.

Whether you're an inveterate lover of language books or just want to win a lot more anger-free arguments on the page, at the podium, or over a beer, Thank You for Arguing is for you. Warm, witty, erudite, and truly enlightening, it teaches you not only how to recognize a paralipsis when you hear it but also how to wield the weapons of persuasion the next time you really, really want to get your own way.

Talk about bang for your buck. This is more for the serious study of rhetoric and communication. It’s dense with its own vernacular and glossary. This beast deserves a couple of reads (both book and audio) to grasp the sheer sum of content. Doing so would be a good investment into yourself.

Packed.

Both we do without thinking, both we can do better with training. This one is a must for anyone.

Rhetoric like breathing.

The book strongly leans toward one political view, making it clear that the author prefers a liberal perspective. This shows up in how arguments are presented, the examples used, and the overall tone of the book. Unfortunately, this can make the book less interesting for people who don't agree with this viewpoint.

This was the first book that I've listened to on the topic of rhetoric. It was a great introduction with a lot of useful material and current examples. I learned a lot and it really piqued my interest.

Great book!

This book is an easy life changer with every chapter giving you a deeper understanding on how to build relationships. Out of the 40 books I’ve personally read this is easily the best. It leans on the more complex aspects as a bit of knowledge has to be known to fully take advantage of this book, but it’s arguably the best.

There is a lot of content and information in this book, I'll have to go back and listen to it again and hopefully absorb more from it. But it is entertaining and informative in the art of rhetoric, with several good examples.I would recommend it to anyone interested in rhetoric.

Worth A Listen

Just like the author suggests, this should be required reading for anyone who considers themselves educated.

Required Reading

This book is a lengthy lesson that shares many details, but does not stress them. There are some decent storytelling examples to support the lessons along the way.
I will probably need to read this again to absorb many of the lessons, and I as a person, probably won’t… unfortunately.

Respectable approach to sophists
