Publisher's summary

When Aimee Tompkins loaded up her old catering van and pulled into Manhattan, she had her sights set on becoming one of the best (and most lucrative) caterers to ever serve crudités and creampuffs in the Big Apple. But after a year of leaving fliers all over town, she's not only running out of money, she's running low on hope. So when she lands a gig at a big architecture firm, Aimee's certain her luck is about to change.

Noel Fitzwilliam is pitching the most important project of his life - the type of project architects dream of. Everything has to go right, so when he finds the new caterer naked in his office bathroom right before the meeting, he's torn between being thrilled and being extremely irritated. He doesn't have time for romance, no matter how incredible she looks without her clothes on.

A mix-up means Aimee is accidentally given his cell number instead of his assistant's. So when she starts texting Noel about how much she hates him, he decides to have a little fun with her. The last thing he expects is for her to turn his world upside-down. But that's exactly what happens as the pair start sharing their deepest secrets and their greatest fears, and Noel discovers he can share so much more via text than he can in person. But what will happen when she finds out who he really is?

Yikes, I just couldn't finish this!

Male narrator made this a rough listen.
Female lead character devolved into an unlikable shallow sex kitten character which made the love story totally fall apart. I held on to chapter 19 and then had to stop!

Male Narrator Almost Ruined the Story

I wish the whole book was done with just the female narrator. The male narrator was horrible. The story was decent, the female narrator was good.

I will always love you….

I love the he grand gesture! The male actor doing female voices was not great. The sexy Brit male voice made up for it

Wtf?!

Ok I was trying to enjoy this and up to chapter 20 I kinda did. Amy is whiny and insecure as hell. How does a man you never gave your heart to break it? And then she needs her friend for comfort Noel gets called an a-hole idk how many times and to top it off she keeps saying how do I make him like me she’s all over the place. QUESTION.. Why the hell is it that when a man explains exactly why he can’t get into a relationship the first thing a woman does is phone a friend call him all kinds of names and says he broke her heart? If you think he’s lying to you why do you still want him?

could have been better

The plot had potential. The writing style was fine, and some moments were funny. The romance started sweet but went tanked toward the end. Though how they were in love after one meeting was quite ridiculous. It could have been a terrific book, but it wasn't.

The problem is that the few good segments were overshadowed by the abundance of hackneyed tropes. I don't know what compelled the author(s) to use every platitude, cliché, and stereotype she'd ever heard before, but she/ they did. Too much was predictable, stale, and frankly unimaginative. Ugh, the hyperbolic trope of the flamboyant gay man was painful to listen to.

The business portion of the book made no sense at all! & taking place in NYC? No way! Stick to writing what you know. And who doesn't know who Doris Day is?¿?¿?¿

Finally, her catfishing turned out to be a great, gorgeous guy. Who BTW, despite her many unattractive characteristics, loved her anyway, so WHY the tantrum? It's completely unrealistic.

I've read Melanie Summers Royal books before and liked them. However, I had not read the other author, Whitney, so I'm not sure who was the problem here...maybe conflicting writing approaches? Who knows <shrug>. it just didn't work.
