Acerca de esta escucha
Burke is one of the country's most acclaimed and popular novelists. He elegantly marries his flair for gripping storytelling with an urbane writing style and complex, fascinating character portraits. Historia
In the fall of 1863, the Union army is in control of the Mississippi river. Much of Louisiana, including New Orleans and Baton Rouge, is occupied. The Confederate army is in disarray, corrupt structures are falling apart, and enslaved men and women are beginning to glimpse freedom. When Hannah Laveau, a formerly enslaved woman working on the Lufkin plantation, is accused of murder, she goes on the run with Florence Milton, an abolitionist schoolteacher, dodging the local constable and the slavecatchers that prowl the bayous.

More 'Texas City' was in the title than the story.
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
This was an insightful listen regarding hard times and hardships from which period in American history my father had conveyed much to me. He lost his brother to the
Would you be willing to try another book from James Lee Burke? Why or why not?
Yes, great character development within a compact space.
Have you listened to any of Ron McLarty’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No.
Could you see Texas City, 1947 being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
This story would make a good movie. I don' know any current child actor names...Fred Savage would have been a good fit back in the day for the central character.

Not about the 1947 disaster.
Good enough story but the title is very deceiving. Story is about a family in Louisiana and only a few sentences that relate to the 1947 disaster in Texas City, Texas. Narration was good.
