Publisher's summary

A breathtaking story of disaster, courage and passion and that Top End spirit that never says die.

Territory is the story of Henrietta Southern, a young Englishwoman who trades her war-torn homeland for a place of wild tropical storms and searing heat, crocodile-infested rivers and barren red wilderness. Six months after the bombing of Darwin, she joins her new husband, Spitfire pilot Terence Galloway, for a new life on his Northern Territory cattle station.

It is also the story of their sons. Of Malcolm and Kit, two brothers who grow up in the harsh but beautiful environment and share a baptism of fire as young men in the jungles of Vietnam.

And what of the Dutch East Indies treasure ship which foundered off Western Australia in 1629? How is the Galloway family's destiny linked with Batavia's horrific tale of mutiny and murder...?

From the blazing inferno that was Darwin on 19 February 1942 to the devastation of Cyclone Tracy, from the red desert to the tropical shore, Territory is a mile-a-minute tale from one of Australia's best loved writers.

Clever Judy Nunn

Brilliant coverage of significant Australian history. Blending Dutch, Aboriginal, Chinese and white Australian interaction and conflict.

Excellent listen, super character development, but

Audible you really need to have a listen and fix the editing issues. There are places where there are words spoken then a blank spot and then words spoken again with the narrator carrying on. Also, volume goes up and down.

Aside from that, and don’t let that stop you, really an excellent listen. Character development is so brilliant! And that moment when you realize how the whole story and it’s different threads and characters come together...priceless.

John Gregg does a bang up job switching from his own British accent to an Australian accent to the accent of the aboriginals.

Historically interesting and well told

I looked up several of the scenes in this book. It appears well researched. The characters are also brought to life and aptly woven into the narrative. The narrator has a gentle voice and tells the story well. I’d recommend it for people who like historic novels. Enjoy!

Intriguing and interesting

Although the story is a bit too long, I found the intertwining of past and present, and the historical implications intriguing. Thoroughly enjoyed the book.

Wonderfully Entertaining

What a great book with the bonus of factual events woven into a story that covers many topics and depicts the Australian landscape so well. Loved it.

A bit too long but fascinating

I’ve read the Batavia story multiple times. The story woven around the locket is beautifully combined with it and the Aboriginal folk in the areas.

I was impressed by the character description of Terence Galloway.

The history information of Darwin in particular is always interesting.

I wish John Gregg would take time to practice correct (Australian) pronunciation of important words such as Abrolhos as well as the Dutch words. I’m Dutch and could not define some Dutch words.
Take a leaf out of Richie Benaud’s book and practice new names to perfection. It will be noted and appreciated.

Engaging NT family saga.

It took me a while to get into Territory, but when I became involved with the characters and story, I 'could not put it down', or stop listening. John Gregg is a splendid narrator. The priceless locket is a clever device for bringing disparate parts of the story together.

Enjoyable Aussie historical fiction

It was hard to work out how a 17th century story was to meld with one set in the 1970’s but it all came together in the end & Book 5 held a few surprises! I really enjoyed this book & Judy Nunn’s writing always keeps me interested.

Family saga

This held my interest and also opened my eyes to some parts of our history I wasn’t familiar with. The characters really come to life and you want things to work out for them!
