Story
The world’s shark population is in trouble for a sad, simple reason: shark fin soup. And although it’s illegal, poachers have been targeting Florida’s biannual migration of blacktip sharks. Marine biologist Doc Ford needs some assistance protecting the sharks and enlists the help of three kids - Luke, Maribel, and Sabina. Luke is brand-new to Florida from the Midwest; sisters Maribel and Sabina have only recently arrived from Cuba - and all three feel like fish out of water. A man holds 12 children hostage at gunpoint. Across the street, James Hawker dangles from a skyscraper, watching the terrorist through a sniper's scope. Hawker has a shot, and he wants to take it, but the police brass say no. By the time he gets permission, it will be far too late. The terrorist opens fire, killing two of the children before Hawker can take him out. When the smoke clears, the madman is dead, and Hawker's career is toast. There had to be a reason that the outfitter, with whom he's had run-ins before, chose his backyard, his woodpile to die in.

Publisher's Summary
Fifteen years ago, a teenage girl found an ancient gold medallion on a small island off the Florida gulf coast. Soon she was having nightmares and later was found hanging from a tree. Although the death was ruled a suicide, the girl's mother, Della, is now sure there was foul play. Her trailer has been vandalized, and her daughter's coffin raided. When Della comes to Doc for help, the mysterious gold medallion plunges the Florida marine biologist into a perilous search for answers.
Filled with suspense and highly charged atmosphere, Ten Thousand Islands received rave reviews from critics. Ron McLarty's dramatic narration highlights its gripping mixture of ancient ritual and modern evil.

I love to fish and have enjoyed the Doc Ford stuff, this story has a GREAT ending. Life sucks when you get sea sick. A little slow at the start but, the payoff, at the end, for me was well worth it.

Twists and Turns
If you could sum up Ten Thousand Islands in three words, what would they be?
Intrigue, Suspense, Unexpected
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
The unusual twists and turns of the story, I never could second guess the author.
Any additional comments?
The descriptions of the Florida terrain and the mystique of the 1000 islands kept my interest and curiosity going strong. The history of the area and the Indians was fascinating. I was completely surprised at the end to hear the author describe the actual case from which he took so much for his story. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who likes a story with a different twist.

Intriguing subject matter, written from the "inside out."
Excellent story, perfectly orchestrated. I wish the narrator knew how to say some of the place names like we Floridians say them. It's a little jarring to hear them wrongly inflected. Otherwise, he did a great job.

One of my early on favorites
If you could sum up Ten Thousand Islands in three words, what would they be?
Fast paced, interesting.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Ten Thousand Islands?
When the person told Doc Ford what he had seen on the Island.
What about Ron McLarty’s performance did you like?
I have said before I always feel like Doc Ford himself is telling me a story
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes and I think it was pretty much a 2-3 day listen.
Any additional comments?
We have a lot on a little Island off of Marco, and I could swear it was the island in the book.

I love this book, I really do. It's like a better, more substantial version of the tv show The Finder. (Its a spin-off from the show Bones) Seriously, listen and enjoy. I'm pretty sure if I find this book in paperback, I'll buy it and actually read it with my eyeballs.

Beware Some cannibalism
Good five dollar sale to introduce me to this author. However he is not for me nor is this series. It must be a man thing about boats and fishing etc. but I did like the seal training background Ford had. Good mystery and l would have to go back to book one to hear Fords back story. I love narrator Ron McLarty and purchase this book because he narrated it. He’s such a professional . do not miss him narrating Robert Crais book LA requiem. Outstanding book and outstanding narration.
