Publisher's summary

I was 12-years-old when the world ended. For eight years I've survived in this sh*thole once known as Earth, fighting the alien parasite that mutated most of the population into bloodthirsty freaks while the rest of us became the lunch special on their alien menu.

Now things are changing, and not for the better. The parasite is evolving, becoming smarter, stronger, and deadlier.

They've already stolen everything from me - my home, my family, even the man I loved. It's time for this bullsh*t to end once and for all.

My name is Bixby, and I'm the resistance.

Really like the narrator and story was fun

Great listen while I'm doing editing on my computer. Fun, dark fantasy with some sex stuff. Can't go wrong.

A Great Apocalyptick Book

I enjoyed listening to this book, the narration was good, but the storyline could use a little more action through out the book.

Gory alien apocalypse at its best

I loved the start of this series. Bix is such a fantastic character and the rest of the characters are so much fun. This alien apocalypse is so horrifying to me, but the adrenaline and action just keeps you glued to the pages and really cheering for the team to survive their next confrontation.

I had already read the ebook and decided it was totally worth re-reading - or listening to it. The audio-book is always such a great and different experience, and I loved coming back to Bix & Co. The narration was great and I look forward to hearing the other books again.

Great story with fantastic narration

Wow. Great start to a series. It's definitely a 5 star listen and worth your credit. There are just some stories that grab a hold of you and don't slow down for a minute and all you can do is hold on for the ride. This is one of those books.

It's a creative, well written, and fast paced story that pulled me in immediately and held my complete attention from start to finish. Very entertaining and engaging with a
great storyline and an interesting cast of characters. It's an apocalyptic/alien invasion story with plenty of suspense and action with a bit of romance and a very interesting twist.

A story is only as good as it's characters. Even a great story can be ruined by unlikable characters. That doesn't happen here. All the characters are well rounded and interesting. Both likable and unlikable. Bixby is an awesome character. Strong, confident and independent with a hardened exterior that she uses to hide her inner vulnerability from all but a few.

It's a harsh world that hasn't been kind to the survivors of the invasion. They have been living in a destroyed world full of enemies for 8 years. Not only do they have to avoid the leeches(aliens) who are to survive they also have cannibalistic humans to contend with. It's a dark world that they live in and things are about to get worse.

This is definitley a series I will be continuing with. Not sure where things are going to go from here but I see a love triangle coming in the future. I usually hate love triangles but this could prove to be really interesting. I can't say any more about that so I won't give away any spoilers.

Marnye Young does a fantastic job with the narration. She was the perfect narrator for this story. Pleasant voice that is easy to listen to for hours at a time. Her narration pulls you into the story from the first word. Clearly spoken with a nice smooth pace. Great character voices. Both male and female. Each character had a distinct voice and personality. Her male voices are perfect with just a change of cadence and tone. She brought the characters, their emotions and the story to life. Very enjoyable.

Cranky Herione

I skipped through a large portion of this. The heroine is a bit unlikable. I mean I enjoy a spunky heroine but when she just a mean b word than no thanks.

Not a world you'd want to live in...

This dystopian story is set 8 years after parasitic aliens arrived on Earth and infected the majority of the population, ever since it's been a fight for survival. And if the aliens aren't bad enough some of the surviving humans are preying on other humans, yep it's bad!

The whole concept behind the story is pretty horrific, but it's creative and really well written. The lead character Bixby is easy to relate to and I couldn't help but want to cheer her on. Just when I thought I'd been shown the worst of it something would happen to show there is more, it's very skillfully done and I really enjoyed the book.

The narration is good, the character voices were mostly well done, I occasionally had trouble telling who was speaking but most of the time it was clear. The pace and tone of the delivery were both good and it was easy to listen to.

I received a free copy of this book from the author and/or narrator and/or publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Kick A** Main Character!!

Bix was 12 when the world as she knew it ended! Her mother sent her "to play" because her father was in one of his "moods". He was abusive and her mother did all she could to shield Bixby, so that day, Bix went to the park. While there something strange happened, a mist started creeping in. This mist made it impossible to breathe, and Bixby thought that this was the end, but she eventually was able to breathe again. When she got up, she saw a homeless man becoming..... something. Running home, she realised both her parents were dead. Devastated, she had no idea what to do, but someone came to her rescue and now 8 years later, Bix is still with the group and still fighting to survive.

This was a solid 5 star read, even though one thing really, really annoyed me with it!! Usually when a book has something annoying in it, it loses a star right away, but this was too good to lose one!! I loved everything about it except the part with Sam. I feel like I missed a book because something obviously happened and I don't know what!!! Apart from the feeling of missing a big part of Bixbys life, this book was amazing.

Bixby was a kick ass character. Gosh, she didn't take any s**t from anyone!!! She has a heart of gold but only a very few people see it. She isn't afraid to do what's needed and isn't afraid to stand up for herself. She was awesome even when she was obnoxious!! The author wrote her in such a way where you can see how and why she is the way she is, though the bit with Sam would make me understand her more I think ;) Anyway, every character is extremely well written and developed and memorable, which is important.

I also loved the plot of this!! How the mist came about is believable, the way it changes the people is well developed and also the way they are advancing and adapting was well done!! It's so refreshing to have a new and unique post apoc book filled with strong female characters. I applaud the author for this and am really looking forward to more from her!!!

In all, this was an action packed, edge of your seat, scary read. I flew through it and actually jumped a few times while listening. It's bleak and gruesome at parts, but it was captivating and amazing. I also have to applaud the author for the fact that the female lead isn't in a love triangle, nor is she reliant on a man!! She sleeps with one of the group and while she has feelings for him, it's not a major part of the story. Bix is well able to handle herself and I loved that!! Brilliantly written and perfectly executed, this is a must read!!!

Marnye Young was also amazing. The level of emotion she showed during scenes really made the performance pop. She gave her all and it showed. She also had plenty of tones and voices for the different characters and gave each of them their own personalities.

I was voluntarily provided this audiobook for free from the author, narrator, or publisher. This in no way affected nor influenced my thoughts.
