Teaching Art to the Blind: My Time with Daniel is a memoir of the author’s experience working as a volunteer in the Accessibility Department of Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts. The author describes how she uses verbal description, history, music, fabric, poetry, specially-created tactiles, and even fragrances to give Daniel, a blind young man, a rich experience of art appreciation. Over a series of visits Stigol takes Daniel “around the world”, visiting galleries of art from six continents. The efforts they make as “partners” in art appreciation affect them both.
