Publisher's Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

From award-winning actor and food obsessive Stanley Tucci comes an intimate and charming memoir of life in and out of the kitchen.

Before Stanley Tucci became a household name with The Devil Wears Prada, The Hunger Games and the perfect Negroni, he grew up in an Italian American family that spent every night around the table. He shared the magic of those meals with us in The Tucci Cookbook and The Tucci Table, and now he takes us beyond the recipes and into the stories behind them.

Taste is a reflection on the intersection of food and life, filled with anecdotes about growing up in Westchester, New York, preparing for and filming the foodie films Big Night and Julie & Julia, falling in love over dinner and teaming up with his wife to create conversation-starting meals for their children. Each morsel of this gastronomic journey through good times and bad, five-star meals and burnt dishes, is as heartfelt and delicious as the last.

Written with Stanley's signature wry humour and nostalgia, Taste is a heartwarming story that will be irresistible for anyone who knows the power of a home-cooked meal.

I made it through it

The reading is quite good, I guess he is an actor after all. The content is beyond sad or boring, it is simply terrible. If you are into glorifying alcohol, prolonged swearing, trivial stories, endless cliches about Italy and Europe as well as outdated 19th century recipes - then this book is for you.

Simply Delicious!

Stanley Gucci’s autobiographical love letter to La Dolce Vita overflows with warmth and a soul-deep passion for the many and varied pleasures of the table.
A must-listen for experienced foodies and aspirant epicureans alike. A feel-good antidote to these uncertain times, the heady cocktail of Tucci’s agile prose and characteristic dry humour make every chapter a delight. Highly recommended!

As good as you'd hoped it would be

Have long admired the actor. Am now loving the writer. Bravo Mr Tucci, this is a wonderfully written culinary autobiography. Sobering towards the end but with the best possible outcome

Taste

An entertaining and amusing book beautifully read by the author, I would highly recommend it. The reader learns so much about the enjoyment of food in its preparation and consumption amongst family and friends over generations.

Quite an inspiration.

A fabulous book, highly recommended

I purchased this book after seeing it written up in one of the Sunday papers. Ii was not disappointed. This really is a fabulous book. Im a great fan of Stanley Tucci as an actor but had no idea of his culinary talent at all. The recipes he gives in the book are provided with such warmth and always a great story to accompany them. It is a very touching book written about his family and the trials that a lot of us face, the passing of a loved one is hard for anyone, however he tells his story so well. An incredible man, his book so made me smile so many times. Highly recommended. Particularly as the author reads it, it couldnt be anyone else.

Deliciously narrated by Stanley himself

I have been playing this Audible in the kitchen whilst making dinner over the past few weeks, having recently enjoyed Stanley’s wonderful CNN series on Italian food and culture (also on BBC iPlayer).
It’s a food oriented autobiography with occasional recipes should you wish to recreate the scenes he describes. The chapter towards the end about 2020 lockdown is hugely endearing and relatable then the final chapter tells the story of his 2017 journey with mouth cancer and his anguish his joy of eating and cooking might be taken away forever. This is definitely a book that merits from being enjoyed in Audible format although I’m sure the paperback is equally engaging.

Loved it

I loved it so much I started from the beginning again as soon as I finished it. I always loved Stanley Tucci as an actor and wasn't disappointed to hear his book. I'm now a bigger fan than I already was.

Was looking forward to this...

I Found Tucci`s "foodie" videos a while back and really love them, but in this book he comes across as a complete snob. His telling a story of his "humble life", although it does not sound that humble. Tucci reads the book in way that`s saying I am better than you and I know it. His reading of this book sounds just tired.

So happy Stanley Tucci narrates this book, his book, because you get his wit & sarcasm in spades.

Witty, endearing and moving!

Hearing Stanley Tucci talk about his life through food made me feel hungry and full at the same time. As a long time fan of his movies, it was no surprise that he is also a brilliant human being. I really enjoyed this book and am gifting it to many friends this Christmas.

Yum

Outstanding! Laugh out loud funny, touching, and crammed full of deliciousness. My only disappointment is that there’s no PDF accompanying the book to include the recipes. Stanley reading them out is not the same as having them to cook from. Please Audible…please!

Don't listen while you're hungry

A unique autobiography centred around food, which thankfully includes recipes of the mouth-watering meals he so eloquently describes. If you love him on film, Stanley's wry charm translates beautifully as he narrates his life through food. He had me chuckling, empathising, inspired (to cook and travel), but most of all hungry. The story wraps up in a beautiful full circle moment - a little bit heart warming to be honest.

Delizioso

My bucket list is to meet Stanley Tucci. Drink Martin's at 5pm with Stanley Tucci and work together in his magnificent kitchen cooking up one of his many delizoso el pasta dishes. I am ... we are so tremendously and forever grateful for Stanley Tucci's recovery from that wretched 'C' word. may God bless him, his family and friends and all the treating physician and their staff. A truly inspiring book. And beautifully read. Thank you Stanley Tucci.

Don't listen while driving!

I loved, loved, LOVED listening to this book. I felt like Stanley and I were having a chat around his kitchen table. Rather than a linear biography, the story of his life unfolded through wonderful annecdotes, like talking with a friend.

Unfortunately I listened to it whilst on a very long road trip... so I couldn't jot down the wonderful recipes as he shared them. Guess I'll just have to go back and listen again with notebook at the ready!

Totally tasteful.

I wasn't sure when commencing listening to this book how it would turn out. Would it just be a memoir of family events? A personal selection of family recipes? Perhaps a series of dialogues peppered by notes of some moderate interest? On all counts I was completely wrong. This book was a mouth watering collection of beautifully woven stories involving Stanley's family, his work, his illness, his passion for food and his joie de vivre bonded by all of the aforementioned. I salivate as I write this review recalling his delicious recipes. I only wish that I had stopped my drive and written them down. Perhaps in the future he may consider a collection of his favourite recipes. His articulate and melodic voice just added to the experience.
