Lestrade heard a shout of warning as he rounded the corner and ducked just in time to avoid getting hit in the face. His would-be assailant swore as Lestrade turned back toward him. Sweat dripping, face contorted into a scowl, he turned as if to escape back the way they had just come only for Smith to catch up, blocking his exit.
Apparently deciding he had a better chance against Lestrade, the man turned back to face the younger inspector.
"Don't do it," the constable warned. "You're outnumbered and surrounded."
Smith simply waited.
London. 1867. Four months after solving a series of child abductions and making a name for himself at Scotland Yard, Inspector Lestrade finds himself tackling another difficult case, one involving the murder of an unwed mother of two on London's East End. Determined to bring the killer to justice, Lestrade finds himself in some of the worst parts of the city, where danger lurks around every corner and the smallest mistake could cost him everything.
