Fitzwilliam Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet have suffered profound heartache in the 14 years since parting in Lambton when word of Lydia's folly reached her family. Wonderful story, hateful characters

I thought this was a wonderful story, but some of the characters in it made me want to choke them and slap the taste out of their mouths.

Life after 14 years

This off canon story captured my attention from the beginning & it was refreshing to skip 14 years ahead from the original timeline. I also loved the introduction of new characters.

Downside: I understand there’s an element of romance in these variations, but I personally don’t enjoy reading/hearing details whether minor or more involved regarding the sexual or intimate relationship. The content was not shocking by any means, it was realistic but I know what happens and don’t need additional details from the author. My preference.

Stevie Zimmerman’s narration is amazing as it always is - she’s my personal favorite!

Fantastic

The story starts 14 years after Lizzy gets Jane’s letter about Lydia and from there everything changes from canon. It is an emotional journey that thankfully ends very well but there were several big bumps, hiccups and misunderstandings along the way. I agree with others that thankfully for Col Fitzwilliam (granted he now has his father’s title) realized what was going on and made it his mission for the two of them to just talk and clear up any misconceptions and mercifully it worked. Stevie Zimmerman hit this one out of the ballpark again as she was able to gently age our favorite characters and bring them to life. I hope that Brenda Webb will have more of her stories narrated.

A story of second chances!

Darcy and Elizabeth meet 14 years after Lydia elopes with Wickham.. Darcy had tried to save Lydia but couldn't as he met with an accident while on the way to do so.. he stays away from Elizabeth believing she would hate him for his failure to protect Lydia.
Fate brings them together when Elizabeth who has gone into service becomes governess to Col Fitzwilliam/ now lord Matlock 's children
There is an evil OW intent on capturing a disinterested Darcy, she creates many obstacles, although the main obstacles Frankly was ODC's tendency to assume and their insecurities... but all the obstacles were met head on by the erstwhile Colonel :)
One wishes everyone had a cousin so steadfast and kind.. he was a true star ! The most loveable character in the story
Ms Zimmerman's narration was perfection, she does so many accents and voices so consistently 😍

Something i would have wanted differently... Iwould have preferred a lesser time gap before the ODC met again and some more interactions between them before they resolved their differences. I maybe the only one here but I would have also liked to know what became of Lydia 😀

Loved It!

I enjoy all of Brenda Webb's stories, add to it narration of Stevie Zimmerman and you have an audiobook that I will be able to enjoy over and over.
