Resumen del Editor

What will Fitzwilliam Darcy do when his beloved father stands between him and happiness?

Darcy has always emulated his wise and honourable father, George Darcy. But following a sinister act of betrayal by a former family friend, his father rejects his most benevolent principles.

When Georgiana forms a friendship with Miss Elizabeth Bennet, Darcy convinces his father to allow the association to continue. However, Elizabeth soon presents a thorny problem: she entices Darcy as no other lady has before, and with his father's current outlook, he would not approve of her as a daughter-in-law.

Still, Darcy’s problem may resolve in time: his father, after getting to know Elizabeth, is certain to recognise her many admirable qualities and change his mind. But what if he does not?In this Pride & Prejudice Regency variation, Fitzwilliam Darcy is caught between the influences of love and duty. Which of these will wield the greatest power?

I wish there had been a different narrator.

In Kelly Miller’s A DUTIFUL SON, there was much that I liked: Bingley gets more of a backstory, and Miller introduces engaging original characters. Darcy’s sister, Georgiana, gets quite a lot of play. I am not sure I’m convinced by the machinations that kept Darcy and Elizabeth apart. However, the friendship that develops between them, despite their different backgrounds, provides a good way to keep those two characters front and center in this delightful PRIDE AND PREJUDICE VARIATION. (I must remove a star for I did not like the narrator. I don’t think his voice was suited to the story).

Duty or Heart

Fitzwilliam Darcy had always been a man of honor- but, what if his honor lead him away from the one thing his heart could not do without? Which would he choose, honor or happiness? This story answers that question.

Great Story

My attention was held throughout with an enjoyable plot, the mild angst because of potential rivals, and good dialogue. Ms. Miller even made me weep for Wickham—a rare feat indeed!

Good narration by Scott Fleming.

Great Story

Really enjoyed the story and the narrator was good. It is interesting to have Darcy's father alive.

JANE AUSTEN LIVES IN A DUTIFUL SON

As an avid Jane Austen fan, I thoroughly enjoyed the audio format of this PRIDE AND PREJUDICE variation created and written by Kelly Miller. It is written beautifully and may have serious screenplay potential. Scott Fleming's narration was excellent and held my attention throughout the story. I actually felt like I was transported back to the early 19th century and able to more intimately experience the characters, events, and dialogue in this dynamic presentation so expertly related by Mr. Fleming. Author Miller has a wonderful talent for enabling readers to feel they are part of the drama without being an active player. No small feat. Highly recommended. Five Stars.

Engaging drama

Fully engaging drama, brought to life like a radio play in many ways, with excellent narration telling a clever variation on the classic tale. A must read for Pride and Prejudice fans.

Elizabeth visits Pemberly

Elizabeth meets Georgiana at Netherfield and goes to visit with her in Pemberly. They become fast friends at a time with Georgiana desperately needs friends. Darcy's father is alive in this version and he is at Netherfield when Elizabeth and Georgiana meet. When Wickham attempts to elope with Georgiana the previous summer, the father Darcy feels betrayed and now feels that no one other than people in his social level can be trusted. He does not believe that Elizabeth is in his social level but decides she still can come visit Georgiana in Pemberly. There is no way, however, that he would allow his son Darcy to marry someone like Elizabeth with her crass vulgar family (and in this book they all, except Jane and Elizabeth are exceedingly horrible!). Wickham comes to Netherfield and is mean as is customary, but not as mean as he can be in other versions. He quickly leaves the scene and only returns to the book in the very end. Most of the book is about Elizabeth's experiences in Pemberly and how she and son Darcy fall in love - and whether or not father Darcy will change his mind about class distinctions. Col. Richard Fitzwilliam plays a role and there are several new characters involved which may or may not play a role in the love lives of son Darcy and Elizabeth. Scott Fleming is an excellent narrator.

The worst, rewrite of the story of pride and prejudice

Among all the creative rewriting of the novel, pride and prejudice, this Hass to rate at the very bottom. Both the character, Elizabeth and Darcy are unrecognizable. Can you imagine Elizabeth being timid, and overwhelmed by wealth? There is not one witty remark she makes in the entire novel. Darcy has no internal struggle except what his father has dictated him to do. The characters are unconvincing.
