Publisher's Summary

New York Times best-selling author Cindy Gerard's red-hot new romantic suspense series features the irresistible men of Black Ops, Inc., a special team of heroes with a taste for living on the edge....

A dangerous attraction....

Abbie Hughes no longer trusts men, but despite her cool indifference, her long legs and showgirl face still draw plenty of attention. Between working as a blackjack dealer, going to school, and keeping an eye on her younger brother, Cory, there's no time for romantic adventures - until the night a sexy, mysterious stranger places a wager at her table.

Spurred by revenge....

Sam Lang left Black Ops, Inc. when tragedy struck his family. Although he's determined to retire his M-16 rifle to lead a quiet life on his ranch, a vengeful quest will send him on a manhunt for the ruthless multimillionaire who murdered his sister.

...Reveals a savage threat they can't ignore.

Though Sam suspects Abbie is in on a lucrative gem-smuggling deal her brother made with the enemy, their attraction is undeniable. Now Cory is missing, and together they search the wild Honduras backcountry to find him. With danger on their trail, they must trust each other completely or face certain death alone.

Good

This was book 2 in the "Black ops" This was a pretty good audiobook Sam Lang left Black Ops when his sister was killed in a bomb he is leading a quiet life on his ranch with his father. When they get a lead on the man that killed his sister he goes back for revenge. Abbie Hughes doesn't have time for men with working as a blackjack dealer in Las Vegas going to school and keeping an eye on her little brother. Cory has been buying Honduran knick-knacks and shipping them to Abbie to store for him. He plans to start a business selling them he got roped in to carrying drugs for Nader. Cory wants to quit but Nader won't let him. Cory's friend Derek stole a necklace from Nader "who stole it from a museum" Derek manages to give it to Cory before he dies. Cory goes into hiding, knowing Nader will kill him. Sam starts dating Abbie for the purpose of getting information. They sleep together. When she discovers the truth she is hurt and hates him. When she receives an email showing Nader torturing Cory he tells her to bring him the necklace and he will let Cory go. Sam and Abbie go to Honduras with the Black Ops group. This was a good book with a lot of action and suspense Abbie and Sam had a lot of hot chemistry and feelings for one another. I loved the narrator of this series. I am looking forward to listening to the next book in this series.

Interesting novel

Story has intrigue but outcome is very predictable. More character development would increase the story appeal.

Good Story Line

I have read a few of Cindy Gerard books and now after reading this book, they are sounding redundant with the sex scenes and ending. The story is well thought out and has heroism at that end which is always great. However, where are the diamonds? Were they sold or just given back?

The story was cliché but not bad

I’ve basically heard and read all the Special Forces/Black Ops storylines. This one didn’t disappoint however the narrator was difficult to listen to. He had no ability to believably change voice for each new character. He wasn’t bad as the lead male however every other voice was comically bad. He especially struggled with narrating female characters.
That said, the story is a part of a series, which I will listen to.

I hate enabling

Good story but I hate enabling. When she got pissed because her brother faced jail I lost respect for her. Really wasn't rooting for her after that.

Sam gets his HEA

Abby and Sam are from different worlds. Tragedy strikes Sam's family and he leaves BOI, but he needs to get justice for his sister. Abby could be the key. What starts out as a ploy to get information quickly transforms into more. As with there other books, plenty of action, excitement and heat. Great narration.

Not my favorite Black Ops book, but worth a read

Cindy Gerard is a great author. These characters just didn’t connect with me. I still give the book 4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. I just didn’t “feel” a 🔥🔥 spark/attraction between the hero/heroine. The narrator’s female voice was distracting, as well. I finished the book, but would recommend other stories in this series. Show No Mercy and With No Remorse were much better!!

Loving it

A new author and narrator for me I’m really enjoying this series. The story is engaging and pacy with a really intricate level of detail, whilst not being distracting from the story itself.

Fab narration really brings this to life and the characters are well portrayed so you absolutely know who is speaking when (it’s a varied and large cast of characters!)

I recommend you give this a listen

Great continuation of the series, lots of action and another tough guy in the team falling hard and fast for the love of his life. looking forward to the next book.
Yet again, another master class in narration perfection from J F Harding.

not as good as others

I'm so enjoying the BOI group and these alphas are a little different as they go their own way, whereas in previous type series the women tend to join their way of life.
But they still manage to inttertwine on missions and get together.
I didn't feel the connection with Sam, not like I did with Gabe. but all in all the plotline was good.
our heroine was pretty forgiving in more circumstances than one but she had her reasons.
the last of the action chapters nearly had my eyeroll going as the climactic scene eeked out pushing your angst a little further.
JF Harding still made me cringe when he slipped into female voices and I see we have a different narrator for the next book.
