Publisher's summary

Hallie Cavanaugh's late father just left her millions of reasons to stay away from Jim Lawson, deputy sheriff of Paradise, Idaho, and the man who broke her heart fourteen years ago. Hallie has worked hard for independence, but she can't dismiss a massive inheritance, even if she has to follow her father's manipulative terms to get it. How hard can it be to spend six months back in Paradise - and not sleep with her old flame?

Former Army Ranger Jim just wants to do his job, raise his daughter...and resist the gorgeous, redheaded reminder of his bad-boy past. Their one unforgettably hot night together had major consequences, and now there's a fortune and a family legacy at stake. But when Hallie is threatened amid a storm of uncovered secrets and conflicted loyalties, protecting her becomes more than a duty: it's a deeply personal fight Jim's heart won't let him lose.

Do you like Murder Mysteries and Romance

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated for my review, and I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed here is my own.

If you have read the previous books in the series then you will definitely want to read this one as well

If you like Murder Mysteries and Romance then you will love this one as it has plenty of romance and plenty of mystery

Hopefully Rosalind will visit Paradise again and take us with her

Paradise Thriller

Any additional comments?

I love this Paradise, Idaho Series! What a great Romance/Suspense series.

Brittany Pressley does a great job on the narration. I love audio books and how it brings these books to life. I really enjoyed this book and listening to it on audio made the experience even better.

In Take Me Back, Hallie Cavanaugh returns home to Paradise after the mysterious death of her evil father, Henry Cavanaugh, and has to carry out the terms of her father's will. When danger starts to threaten Hallie, Jim steps in to help and protect Hallie and helps solve her father's death.

This book has Murder, Romance, Mystery. There is suspense that keeps you guessing who done it. Full of twists and turns! I highly recommend this audible book!

Way To Keep It All In The Family

I love that now Deputy Jim gets his chance at love and we find out his back story and how he ended up a cop in his hometown. Deputy Jim may have always been a good guy but he has always been on the right side of the law? It's very interesting to see what happens when Jim's first love comes back to town and stirs up all kinds of conflicts in his family dynamics. And as usual in this series, Rosalind James writes stories with a mysterious and/or intriguing subplot and this one is no different. For such a small town, Paradise has a whole lot of criminal intent. The best part of the story is how Jim and Hallie overcome the obstacles, including family complications, to their relationship,

The narration was okay but would have been better with the duet style narration of the first two books in the series. Brittany seemed to narrate with a bit of a southern drawl that didn't make sense.

Absolutely worth price. I would pay it all over again.

Another great book by Rosalind!

I am a huge fan of Rosalind James, but I really enjoyed the reading of this book. I don't have a lot of experience with audiobooks, but I really enjoyed the reading.

I like the way that Rosalind develops her characters and their relationships between them. She does a great job with bringing in outside characters, linking story to story.

Great addition to the series

This book didn't hold my attention as well as the previous books in this series but it really picked up toward the end and finished with a bang! Rosalind James is still one of my favorite authors!

Great Author / More from this author

So far every book I have listened to from this author has had a great storyline. I really love the in depth details of each character. You feel like you are a neighbor or one of their friends and when you finish the book you miss the characters.

I did have a problem at the beginning of this book getting into the story. I thought I might regret purchasing it, but it then started to draw me in and I couldn't stop listening. I couldn't wait to get through it and hated it when it ended. I will definitely read this one again.

Terrific Audiobook - Highly Recommend!

Any additional comments?

I so enjoyed this audiobook - it's got great characters, a complex storyline, and the narration adds depth beyond the Kindle version. There is so much more than you'd expect from stereotypical "romantic suspense" - family situations both good and bad, love & grace, and all the nuances of living in a small town called Paradise. This narrator reveals it all with ease and overall does a fine job presenting this story.

My Kindle review covers the rest: When the town tycoon dies, too true to real life, the squabbling over the inheritance starts and a few family secrets come to light. Author Rosalind James masterfully spins this story of interwoven family relationships and lifelong friends, while also giving us readers a sweet rekindled romance and bad guy, of course. And she will keep you guessing until the end - you won't be able to put it down! (Ed: or stop listening!)

Although part of a series, this book stands alone and I highly recommend it if you're looking for a nice read. And then you'll want to pick up the rest of the Paradise books. And then maybe "Escape to New Zealand"! But this one is a keeper, for sure.

past and present attraction

James writes well done romance stories with a twist of suspense. Her characters have some status in their own world, but are presented from their personal viewpoint as regular people.
Someone is trying to keep Hallie from living 6 mo in her father’s house to inherit a chunk of his estate. She has some long ago history with Jim, and some right now rekindled attraction. Too bad they’re not supposed to have sex in order for her to inherit.
The most moving part of the book, for me, was when Jim tells Maya’s story.
Pressley does a decent job of narration.

Rosalind James Does It Again!

Any additional comments?

Rosalind James’ new book, Take Me Back (Paradise, Idaho Book 4), can be added to the increasingly long list of very readable novels that she has written. Ms. James has a way of weaving a story that engages the reader and keeps said reader engaged. Once I began listening to Take Me Back on Audible, I had a difficult time turning it off and was able to listen to this 15 hour book in two days. That says a lot about the readability of the book, how much I was enjoying it, and how much I wanted to see how everything was resolved. This anecdote explains why I recommend this book and why I think others who enjoy romantic novels or those in the romantic suspense genre will also enjoy reading this book. That said,  I did have some issues with the book. Hallie Cavanaugh can be added to the long list of the strong, occasionally challenged, women typically found in a Rosalind James book, for which I am grateful, but I did feel that Hallie was just a bit too perfect.  There is also a love scene in the earlier part of the book that just didn’t ring true to me. I understand that the characters feel a powerful attraction for one another but, given their professions and the location of the scene, I just felt that it would have been out of character for both of them to take such a risk, especially with what was at stake: their reputations and her job, not to mention millions of dollars, even if Hallie didn’t necessarily want the money.

I appreciated how well crafted the mystery in the book was written. The book was peppered with several characters who, at least on the surface, could have had a hand in Hallie’s father’s death and then want her, minus her inheritance, out of the picture. The book included some nice twists that kept the reader guessing. I enjoyed many of the characters in the book. I liked Jim Lawson, the male lead, and, as I read deeper and deeper into the book. I especially liked Mac.

Overall, the narration by Brittany Pressley is well done. I liked that she was able to give Hallie, Jim and Mac distinctive voices that rounded out their characters, and the way she brought the book to life.

I enjoyed Take Me Back, a standalone novel, and recommend it. It is safe to say that if a reader likes this book, then the reader would enjoy the rest of the series. Three and a half stars.

I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I was not required to write a positive review and nor received any compensation for writing a review. The opinions stated are solely my own.
