For five long years the land of Homana had been strangling in the grasp of a usurper king—its people ravaged by strife, poverty and despair; its magical race, the Cheysuli, forced to flee or face extermination at the hands of their evil counterparts, the sorcerous Ilhini. The time had come for Prince Carillon, Homana's rightful ruler, to return from exile with his Cheysuli liege man, free his land from the evil domination of the tyrant Bellam and his villainous magicians, restore the Cheysuli to their rightful position of grace, and claim his birthright.

Story
Nearly a century has passed since the Prophecy of the Firstborn was set in motion—the generational quest to recreate the magical race which once held sway in the lands ruled by Homana's Mujar. Now, Kellin, heir to Homana's throne, has only to sire an offspring with an Ihlini woman to reach this goal. But Kellin wants nothing of prophecy, nor even of his own magical heritage. Embittered by tragedy, he refuses the sacred lir-bonding, becoming anathema in the eyes of his Cheysuli kin.

Publisher's Summary
For the first time in years, life seems settled for Tiger and Del. They run a school for sword-dancers in the South. They're raising a two-year-old daughter. They collect income from their interest in a thriving cantina. Occasionally Tiger must dance against sword-dancers bent on killing him for forsaking the oaths and vows of the circle, but for the most part it's an idyllic life. Until Tiger's twenty-five-year-old son accuses him of being "domesticated."
Thus challenged by his own flesh-and-blood to reclaim his legendary status, Tiger, accompanied by Del and his son, embarks on a journey northwards that will test his sword skill and resolve, and lead him and Del into danger from an old enemy. Though Tiger had forsaken his magic years before, he now faces the choice to reclaim it, and to wield it, in order to save those he loves.

Excellent addition to a great series!
Stephen Bel Davies does an excellent job embodying the Sand Tiger. I hear his voice when I read the books now. I had begun the first book of the series years ago and could never make it very far because Tiger seemed so oafish. Bel Davies portral of the character was magic. I loved this book because it really showed how love triumphs.

It's OVER! I want MORE Tiger and Del!
I've come to love Tiger and Del and their magical world. I would buy seven more books about them if I could. Stephen Bel Davies' melodious narration has brought every character to life without ever repeating a distinct voice. I am going to really miss my friends from the Tiger and Del series.

A fine edition to a truly enjoyable series, BUT!
This audio book is very polarizing to me. Because I give the narrator a one star review. Whenever he gives his FAILURE of an attempt at voicing Del, it is INCREDIBLY jarring. The accent he gives her is atrocious, unnecessary, and, quite frankly, in poor taste. That being said. I still give this audio book high ratings. I am biased. I have read and read this series many times over. So yes. I will go into the newest chapter of the Tiger and Del novels with high spirits. I give this audio book 4 stars for overall. It would be 3 stars because of the narration, but my history with the series gives a +1 bonus star. Jennifer Roberson has established a light, self depreciating tone for the series that has remained consistent throughout the series. This book is no different. It is a welcome sight to see the familiar characters, a little older, a little wiser, and still JUST as good with a sword!

No Overall Plot
Would you consider the audio edition of Sword-Bound to be better than the print version?
Only had Audible version.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
Nice to see Del and Tiger again, but there's no overall plot line, nemesis or end goal for most of the story. Seems more like a series of short stories tied loosely together.
Which scene was your favorite?
The sequence with Umir the Ruthless.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I'm using these as stay-awake-while-commuting books, so this doesn't really apply to me. There were a couple of parts that I sat in my turned off car to finish though.
Any additional comments?
Author has kids going to college soon, maybe?
