Publisher's summary

Getting lost in the woods was never this much fun.

When Hans Jager and his sister, Greta, have to return home for the holidays, the last thing he expects is to run into his childhood best friend, Chester Wild. Even more surprising is when Chester pretends to be Hans’s boyfriend to protect Hans from his wicked step-mother’s wrath. Seeing Chester again makes Hans realize that he might feel more than just friendship, but can he risk spoiling what they already have?

Chester has always loved his best friend. But Hans is straight, right? When they find themselves stranded in the woods, everything changes, but for how long? A dark family secret could undo their magical reunion, and Hans is feeling more lost than ever. Could Chester be enough to guide him back to true love?

Sweet Tooth is a steamy, stand-alone MM romance novel featuring a scrumptious sweet shop, slow dancing to Elton John, an explosive family dinner, a loyal puppy, a very naughty use for candy canes, and a guaranteed HEA with absolutely no cliff-hanger.

A Sweet Fairy Tale Fake Relationship Turns Real

I was already a fan of this e-book, so pairing it with narrator Kieran Flitton's delicious voice and British accent made it a surefire 5-star listen for me.

"Sweet Tooth" is a delightfully sweet fairy tale retelling with cinnamon roll MCs and a heartwarming second chance love story. Hans and Chester are former childhood best friends, now grown and reconnecting - and facing unspoken deeper feelings that've always simmered underneath - when Hans returns home with twin sister Greta after a 10-year absence. Shyly dancing around each other as they get reacquainted, the two plunge into a fake relationship to spite Hans's stepmother and really are quite adorable together as faking it gives way to their true feelings and some truly steamy and swoony moments. Their HEA is, quite appropriately, deliciously sweet.

For all of this sweetness, though, it didn't result in sugar shock as Hans's stepmother proves quite wicked in her decade-long effort to estrange the twins from their father, and the strong secondary characters - most notably, the fabulous Greta - also help balance out the story. I received this free review copy audio book by request and have left this honest review voluntarily.

enjoyed it

📖 Story comment: easy pace, charming characters and an entertaining story.
There isn't anything to not enjoy in this modern twist on Hansel & Gretel. The characters both main and secondary are likeable (or not likeable if you're the step monster), the town is charming and it all feels very Christmassy.

🎧 Narrator comment: I enjoyed Kieran Flitton's narration, his Brittish accent suits the characters, he has good cadence, inflections and intonations and it's easy to distinguish the characters from each other. Overall an enjoyable performance and he bought the story to life.

Another Great Helen Juliet Fairy-Tale Retelling

This is the 3rd fairy-tale retelling I’ve read by Helen Juliet; this one being the most delightfully adorable so far. ‘Sweet Tooth’ modernizes ‘Hansel and Gretel’ into, yes, a sweet gay romance.

All sorts of familiar elements and characters from the children’s tale are wonderfully adapted to this grown-up story. Helen Juliet also mixes in low-angst and a second chance at love, with a slight bit of intrigue, into this well-written update. Sprinkle in some candy-related kink to the steamy bits and this book makes for a spicy and sugary read.

Keiran Flitton has quickly become a favorite narrator of mine. The voices he uses for different characters are distinct and well-performed. His interpretation of the story delivers a nice emotional touch for the listener.

This audiobook was requested by me as a free review copy. I am voluntarily submitting my opinions on it.

You are the sweetest candy

Ah, I always love when I can immerse myself in fairytale retelling. And who among us haven’t read Hansel and Gretel when we were a child. But now we can relive our favorite fairytale and many more.

Hans and Greta are the children of Gingerbread’s mayor. Like in the fairytale, they have a wicked step mother who has machinations on them. But fear not, Chester will protect his best friend Hans whom he’s also in love with for all his life. Candies, mystery and whimsical magic, what more can you ask for?

It’s really a fun story with a trifecta of murder mystery, romance and fairytale. It’s fun, it’s whimsical and it’s heartwarming. I really loved listening to this story. Highly recommended if you are on a lookout for a whimsical love story.

Fairy tale re-telling

Sweet Tooth is a fairy re-tell of Hansel and Gretel with similar characters taking a little bit of a different form. My draw to the story was the friends-to-lovers trope and the narrator. There were components I liked and some not so much. I especially enjoyed the fact that one of the main characters was a twin and how their banter was really funny. I got a little bogged down in some overly detailed segments that slowed the pacing down.

I felt the narration was very good with a terrific voicing difference for the characters, male and female. Single narrated books can be difficult to listen to sometimes trying to keep characters straight, but that was not a problem here. Really good job.

Hansel and Chester

This was quite the mashup of some fairy tales. There was an evil step mother, the mean old lady with candy, Hansel and Gretel and I felt like nods to more stories.  Chester and Hansel are adorable together and are able to find what they both want and Chester is by Hansel's side through it all. I was glad they were able to rebuild the candy shop into something better.

Sweet

I read the story 1st and then decided to listen to it. I am so glad I listened to the story. I thought it was so much better than reading the physical book. I feel like I was watching a movie in a sense. The narration was very good and kept me intrigued.

Fantastic Interpretation ❤️

Helen Juliet has written a fantastic retelling of Hansel and Gretel with her usual spin on the classic tale.

I loved the characters, and the storyline is unique to the original tale, but so endearing and brought a tear or two to my eyes😢😢

I absolutely loved it 😍

Kieran Flitton does another amazing job narrating this audiobook and bringing the characters to life 🥰

Highly recommend!

sweet and wonderful!

I'm loving these fairytale adaptations by Helen and this one surprised me. I never really thought much about Hansel and Gretel but this was so cleverly done you can pick up all the hints and parallels while still reading a new story. you can tell so much love goes into creating these stories and I will admit to a few teary moments while reading this one. Everything I've read by Helen just has this special magic I can't explain. I'm always enthralled by her writing and enchanted by her stories.

Hans and Chester are so sweet together and I'm always a sucker for a second chance romance and this one is so wonderful, sweet and a little bit naughty 😉 I love the kinky inclusion of sweets, very nice touch. I just loved it! I can't wait to see which fairytale she's going to tackle next!!

Unbearably bad

This book is awful. The writing and the plot is more suited to a children’s book, if it wasn’t for the bedroom scenes. Who is this book even aimed at? The author could probably write a good LGBTQ+ fairytale book aimed at romantic hearted kids if they removed the sex scenes. There’s plenty of fairytale books with more mature writing out there so it’s not because it’s based on Hansel and Gretel that I had a problem. The characters’ decisions made no sense and so much of it was horribly cringeworthy. I don’t know how this book has so many good reviews.

Super sweet

The story: I really enjoyed this story. It had all the great story lines that comes from a Helen Juliet retelling. Hans and Chester has great chemistry and are so sweet with each. Greta is a great side character.
I did feel the build up was resolved a bit quick but it’s what I expect now from this author. Still a great story.

The narration: Kieran Flitton does another wonderful job. I do enjoy his voice.

A lovely, Christmas-y best-friends-to-lovers story

While this story is loosely based on the traditional Hansel and Gretel tale, Hans and Chester's romance felt very original and captivating. There were just enough references to the original story for me to notice them, but the overall plot took on a life of its own as the story progressed. I've always been a sucker for second-chances at love, and Hans and Chester's reconnection was particularly sweet since the two of them were still hopelessly in love. As these former best friends banded together like old times, it was such a joy to see them confess their feelings to each other and pursue something real. Unlike some romances where the characters have to build up trust and an emotional connection, Hans and Chester were already all-in and just needed a push to be honest with each other. The rest of the story was a sweet exploration of their affections and a chance for Hans and Greta to finally get some closure about what happened with the town of Gingerbread. I can honestly say that I did not see some of those twists and turns coming, and in true fairytale fashion the good guys walked away with a huge victory. Kieran Flitton was an amazing narrator for this audio, and I couldn't be happier with the way he brought these men to life!

Modern day fairytale

I loved this book, I was lucky enough to get a review copy of the audio, and I also read the book.

This book is a modern-day version of Hansel and Gretel, set in Gloucester, England.

Helen Juliet has completely re-written this book, and the outcome is an incredible, very realistic story that has lots of twists and turns along the way.

Trauma, childhood love, manipulative stepmother, an old hag in a sweet shop, hot sex this book has everything. Our happy ever after is guaranteed.

Kieran Flitton's narration was incredible the multiple voices and tones helped to enjoy the story tenfold. I did have to speed up the narration to 1.40 speed on audible.

Sweet second chance romance

An enjoyable and well done adaptation of Hansel and Gretel into a gay romance. The relationship is sweet, if a little fast moving.
The kink isn't for me but others may like it (involves food, predominantly sweets). Childhood friends to lovers with evil stepmother, creepy sweet shop owner, and a touch of lost in the woods to move the relationship along nicely.
