From the New York Times #1 bestselling author Ilona Andrews comes a fun and action-packed new adventure in the Innkeeper Chronicles! We invite you to relax, enjoy yourself, and above all, remember the one rule all visitors must obey: the humans must never know.
Life is busier than ever for Innkeeper Dina DeMille and Sean Evans. But it’s about to get even more chaotic when Sean's werewolf mentor is kidnapped. To find him, they must host an intergalactic spouse-search for one of the most powerful rulers in the Galaxy. Dina is never one to back down from a challenge. That is, if she can manage her temperamental Red Cleaver chef; the consequences of her favorite Galactic ex-tyrant's dark history; the tangled politics of an interstellar nation; and oh, yes, keep the wedding candidates from a dozen alien species from killing each other. Not to mention the Costco lady.
They say love is a battlefield; but Dina and Sean are determined to limit the casualties!

While it was released serially, it is a complete book in and of itself, and greatly benefits from reading at least the other Dina-starring books in the series.
(Although that leaves out Sweep of the Blade, one of my all-time favourite books and comfort listens. It's also Kirat's introduction and so her appearing in this book had me absolutely delighted! So I mean, if you're going to enjoy the series -- and I absolutely recommend you do -- you might as well read them all.)
Due to the very brief, witty summaries at the start of each chapter, I can see this feeling a little repetitive if binge-listened (as I did). On the other hand, it made finding my place after losing it a breeze, and if listened to over time or a few chapters at a time it's a pretty fantastic thing if you're like me and have the memory retention of a goldfish. It's good to know for future listens and quite frankly I wouldn't mind other books doing the same
I really enjoyed the pageantry and showmanship of this book, the looks at Dina and Sean's relationship and characters and how they have evolved over time. It's so comforting to have partners who trust each other, can be vulnerable with each other, and don't spend their time second-guessing themselves or each other. There are also lots and lots and lots of weird, wonderful and terrifying alien species, helping the galaxy feel bursting with life and bustling with business. (If you're looking for similar reads, I highly recommend Cat Valente's "Space Opera", especially the audio version, and Ann Aguirre's "Strange Love").
This is not the end of the Innkeeper series; we make progress towards finding Dina's parents and discovering what happened to their Inn. We do finally get answers about some other things that have existed since the first book. The cast is large, but there is both a guide in the physical and audio books for quick reference. The growing cast means a lot more laughs (which were delightfully aided by the performance, notably the whispered yet still in-character-voiced duet of "What is Love").
There is some swearing, which is not a surprise in this series. There's some battle, some murder, loads of intrigue, but other than a scene which contains a prior content warning of depiction of animal abuse, there's nothing I noticed to need content warnings for. Murder trees? Murder trees. They get put in the pit. Would you like to discuss?
It felt like a lighter read than the last few have been, despite there being plenty of serious things going on. I'm so okay with that. There are some very good insights on knowledge vs application, ad hominem attacks, and why you shouldn't forget your rebuttals at home.
