"While exploring the evidence for an afterlife, I witnessed some unbelievable things that are not supposed to be possible in our material world. Yet they were unavoidably and undeniably real. Despite my initial doubt, I came to realize that there are still aspects of nature which are neither understood or accepted, even though their reality has profound implications for understanding the true breadth of the human psyche and its possible continuity after death."
So begins Leslie Kean's impeccably researched investigation, revealing stunning and wide-ranging evidence suggesting that consciousness survives death. In her groundbreaking second book, she continues her examination of unexplained phenomena that began with her provocative New York Times best seller UFOs: Generals, Pilots, and Government Officials Go on the Record.
Kean explores the most compelling case studies of young children reporting verifiable details from past lives, contemporary mediums who seem to defy the boundaries of the brain and of the physical world, apparitions providing information about their lives on earth, and people who die and then come back to report journeys into another dimension. Based on facts and scientific studies, Surviving Death includes fascinating chapters by medical doctors, psychiatrists, and PhDs from four countries.
As a seasoned journalist whose work transcends belief systems and ideology, Kean enriches the narrative by including her own unexpected, confounding experiences encountered while she probed the question concerning all of us: Do we survive death?

If you could sum up Surviving Death in three words, what would they be?
Refreshing, original, and thorough. What did you like best about this story?
Kean approaches this topic with all the journalistic rigor that she applied to her UFO research, and it's exactly the kind of reportage this field desperately needs but is lacking. Though she does recount some well-established cases, Kean brings much fresh insight and personal research to the topic instead of just rehashing old evidence like so many other books often do. I've read most of the literature on the topic, and was surprised to learn something new, which is precisely why this book deserves to be read by those who think they're current in their understanding. What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
This is where the audiobook fails to deliver. While the idea of having guest writers pen the core chapters is a fun idea, not all of the writers are equally skilled, and this shortcoming is compounded by having guest "actors" perform the chapters, which rarely works in an audiobook format. Many of the narrators affect silly accents, and that just makes the discrepancy in story-telling all the worse. Kean does a great job of reading her stuff; she should have read the whole thing. Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Chapters 12 and 13 are particularly compelling.Any additional comments?
The silly accents aren't a deal breaker. Compared to many of the audible titles that are narrated by 3rd parties, this book is better than most. If you looked at the negative comments on Audible, you'd see that 80% or more have to do with poor narration. It's ironic since this is the most essential component of an audiobook! Yet Audible has such poor quality control in this respect, and just don't get it.An excellent, journalistic addition to the field
