Supervillain Rehabilitation Project, Part 1

This set consists of a prequel novella and the first two books of this series. Overall, this is a promising start to the series, with interesting characters and engaging plotlines. I found book one to be particularly impactful, with a dose of emotional whiplash and a satisfying resolution. Book two was solid, with good character development and entertaining action.

Heroes, Romance, and Charm

This series does small-scale superheroes with high stakes and great characters. There's plenty of humor and heart, and the romance is believable and well done.

A story full of super humanity.

This is a story with lots of adventures muddled with slices of real humanity and very relatable conflict and struggles, as a parent and sibling I was gripped at many points. Though at other points it did drag and I found many convenient times to let the story rest for the next day.

This book may not cause a lack of sleep, but the main characters are likable enough without having a depth that makes me feel like I know them or people like them. The conflicts are similarly shallow seeming though towards the end of this pack of stories they do seem to be building to something sinister.

On the whole, while I did enjoy the story and will listen to the follow up, this is a great youth fiction but I found it lacking the real depth I got from the Similar “The Reckoners” by Brandon Sanderson. It lead my 40 year old self to not get the deep sense of adventure or fulfillment I usually seek in books. The SVRP1 is worth one listen, not sure about another, not because I didn’t enjoy it, but because I don’t think I missed anything. It’s fun and snappy without being deeply fulfilling or nuanced.

Super Fun Superhero series part 1

HL Burke it’s an auto buy for me. When she reached out to her fans with codes in exchange for a review. Yes please!
While I prefer her gas lamp cinnamon rolls, Fade is a solid hero with a compelling story arc. Prism is a great heroine and perfect complement to Fade. Her story and how it weaves with Fade’s strengthens the series.
Now, let’s talk supporting cast and villains.
Aidan, Tanvi, Keeper, and Yui are strong characters in their own right.
The villains for each book as well as the big bad move the plot forward with great twists.

Great storytelling

I love reading H.L. Burke's stories. They are always full of adventure, heart, and (best of all) snark.
And Rena Gail does a marvelous job of bringing the stories to life. The characters are easily identifiable by her voicing, and she makes it easy to get caught up in the story. Her Scottish accent could use a bit of work, but who am I kidding, so could mine. Great job overall.

Riveting and Well-Read

HL Burke has a habit of making me forget the world around me (and my responsibilities) with stories that grab me and won't let go. I had already read Reformed on Kindle, but Relapsed and Redeemed were new to me. I love the heartfelt connections between characters, meaningful struggles and growth, snark and sarcasm, and stories that are exciting enough I can't step away, but not so stressful I can't bear to engage them. (I have a high sensitivity to stressful plots.) The sexual content is very tastefully handled, though I might not recommend it for a randy teen, haha.
The reading was also very well done. My only gripe is Fade's voice is not as deep as I imagine it personally, but there's only so much female vocal chords can do, so no grudge there. She handled the different accents absolutely phenomenally!
Overall, 10/10 would highly recommend, and gladly read again.
