The phenomenal fifth book in the Hunger Games series!

Acclaimed actor Jefferson White, who starred in Paramount Network's Yellowstone as Jimmy Hurdstrom, brings his talent to the worldwide best-selling Hunger Games series as narrator of the Sunrise on the Reaping audiobook!

When you've been set up

to lose everything you love,

what is there left to fight for?

As the day dawns on the fiftieth annual Hunger Games, fear grips the districts of Panem. This year, in honor of the Quarter Quell, twice as many tributes will be taken from their homes.

Back in District 12, Haymitch Abernathy is trying not to think too hard about his chances. All he cares about is making it through the day and being with the girl he loves.

When Haymitch's name is called, he can feel all his dreams break. He's torn from his family and his love, shuttled to the Capitol with the three other District 12 tributes: a young friend who's nearly a sister to him, a compulsive oddsmaker, and the most stuck-up girl in town. As the Games begin, Haymitch understands he's been set up to fail. But there's something in him that wants to fight . . . and have that fight reverberate far beyond the deadly arena.

Finally! Love the story-- was very reminiscent of book one. Even better this narrator made up for the disaster of the last book. .

Absolutely great performance, but the story doesn't fit into the greater universe that Suzanne Collins has created. No doubt there's fan service and calling out connections. However, you can feel the greater universe starting to feel loose and poorly connected - why don't outlying districts train their children like the careers? why do they need coal if they can build 6 mile long stadiums and have hovercraft? Most importantly, the character development feels a bit flat when you know there's 20 years of development that essentially goes ignored.

Meh - I wanted to like it.

i love getting to see what made him the cynical man he was in the first books. the parallels between him and snow with their girls and getting confirmation about katness dad, i’m definitely going to reread it to find more details

love getting to see the past lives of such pivotal characters

glorious addition to a glorious collection. there is always a fear when something iconic gets built upon that the addition will destroy the lore or compromise the integrity of the whole, but haymitch's tale is like perfectly curated art pieces accenting the grand hall that is the hunger games stories. I was moved to tears more than once being introduced to the generation before Katniss and Peeta, and certainly the "Easter eggs" for fans are always a thrill and not in short supply. I loved every second of "Sunrise on the Reaping."

from the day I finished Mockingjay, I always declared I would only be interested in more books if it was haymitch's story....but of course "the ballad of songbirds and snakes" proved me quite wrong there...and now that I have haymitch's story, I do think Susan Collins could produce a lovely novel about the covey or tell us more about lonore dove and I would be as engrossed and moved by her characters.

Beautiful Storytelling

I was a bit concerned that there wasn't enough to a Haymitch story for a whole novel, but this was excellent and a great bridge between the other prequel and the original trilogy. I loved it. Highly recommended.

Excellent continuation of story
