Every end has a new beginning....

All new from best-selling author Jennifer Bohnet.

When Pixie Sampson's husband tragically dies, she inherits the beautiful Château Quiltu in Brittany, Northern France.

But unbeknown to her, she also inherits a mysterious lodger, Justine Martin and her four-year-old son, Ferdie.

Heartbroken and with her adventurous mum, Gwen, in tow, they travel to France to put the château on the market but are soon drawn into a quest to seek the château's secrets.

Who is Justine? Why is she living at the château? How did she know her husband?

Lovely Story

Summer at the Chateau is charming story of loss, mystery and renewal. I have a hard time with the same voices being portrayed by the presenter of the authors other books. Otherwise very enjoyable.

Just ok for me

This started out really strong but got progressively boring. I’d say 2/3 were entertaining but the remainder was just uninteresting.

Too nice..!

Everyone is just a bit too nice and far too forgiving in this story! Saint Pixie is really left a nightmare of a situation to sort out after the death of her lying, cheating, manipulative and controlling husband - ugh!

I would have understood her more had she chucked his ashes overboard from the cross channel ferry in Plymouth harbour close to the sewage outlet… he’d known about his love child daughter for four years?!

As for elderly dance mad granny meeting up with her first love and moving in with him after knowing him only a month in her nanny days and then meeting again for one afternoon and a packed lunch - she was clearly desperate to leave St Pixie and Co behind and her offer of a ‘job’ working as ‘front of house’ at the Château Retreat!

Narrator did OK although she sounds Spanish more then French as a lot of ‘th’s’ in the accents!

Overall, very easy listening if you like not much really happening and sweet as treacle happy endings.

Enjoyable escapism

I do not agree with the other review. Although the story has a similarity to others I think it is sufficiently different to still be throughly enjoyable in its own right. I also very much enjoyed the performance and production quality. The characters are beautifully crafted by Jennifer Bohnet and I thoroughly recommend any of her books.

Summer at the Château

This is an excellent summer read. A book you can put down the start again without having to go backwards to remind your self about what’s just happened.

Great Book but not narrator

Really enjoyed the book, felt the constant comments in the book that the character was going to sell the chateau was annoying as it was clear that this wasn’t going to happen

Felt the narrator spoilt the experience with her performance

great story

Lovely story, found some of the reading/choice of voices a little slow, or maybe i was just impatient to hear the tale unwind. Will read again.
