Publisher's Summary

Fast, furious and fatal...a pair of killers seek brutal revenge.

When a homeless veteran is found dead in a squalid Sacramento alley, FBI Special Agent Megan Elliott vows to find the murdered hero's killer. Her investigation gets complicated fast, for the victim, a former Delta Force soldier, is just one link in a nationwide spree of torture and murder.

Straight off a job rescuing medical missionaries, soldier-for-hire Jack Kincaid returns to his home base in the Texas border town of Hidalgo only to receive the news that one of his closest colleagues - also ex-military - has been brutally murdered. Faced with an inept local police force, Jack takes matters into his own hands.

Now, as part of a national task force to stop the sadistic killings, by-the-book Megan and burn-the-book Jack form a tense alliance, sparked with conflict and temptation. But they struggle against more than passion, for a vicious pair of killers has only just begun a rampage of evil...and the primary target is much closer than Megan suspects.

Over the top "romance" ruined a perfectly good...

story. seriously, the "romance" portion was way too much and unbelievable. it really ruined what could have been a fun mystery.

HATED IT ...BUT WAIT

I hated this book but it's important you know why. From the minute I turned the first page until I read the final words I couldn't get anything done because I couldn't put it down. I have been an Allison Brennan fan for quite some time. The Lucy Kincaid Organ seriesmakes me relate to Kathy Bates in Misery though not quite to that extreme. I do hope MS Brennan plans to continue that series for many years to come. I bring this up because I feel having started with the Lucy series gives me an interesting perspective to now go back to life before Lucy. Ms Brennan has done something few authors have done by building a of books not just about one character but about individuals from two families.. Each book can easily stand alone but when you become a true fan you begin to feel like your reading about your friends. In truth i loved this book. it had some good twists and turns with an excellent plot. This is a book i would highly recommend.

Romance, Heavy on the Suspense

This book is well written with enough twists and turns, expected and unexpected, to keep you going. It borders on horror with explicit, gory dead scenes but not over the top. If you're even a little squeamish don't read.
The mystery was definitely the emphasis for the book and the romance secondary and if I have any complaints it would be the ending was drawn-out then ended abruptly. The romantic ties drawn too flimsy to be believable for the ending.
All in all I give it thumbs up for the well written mystery, but thumbs sideways for not enough substance for the romance.

Sick!!!

I have listened to numerous suspense books over the years and some have been pretty gory, but this one I had to stop after just an hour of listening.
If you like severe torture in detail then you will like the book.
For me, it was sick!
