Igor Stravinsky (1882-1971) is ondanks zijn kleine postuur een reus in de muziek van de 20e eeuw. Zijn veelzijdige oeuvre omspant de belangrijkste ontwikkelingen van de 20e eeuw, van de populaire Russische balletten en zijn neoclassicistische werken, tot de seriële muziek uit de jaren zestig.
