Shockingly Poor Narration

Wouldn't it be preferable to have a character's voice sound like another character's instead of making her sound like, say, a flying monkey if it could speak? We got to know Maureen well in earlier books in the series, but when Polly Edsell entered the picture, Maureen suddenly became a nitwit with a high-pitched, squeaky voice. The narrator also tends to use "up-speak" with various characters, so that a statement becomes a question, and sometimes employs a modern method of emphasis so that "No" becomes "Noahh." This narrator does quite well when there are fewer characters but is not appropriate for a series like this. It almost became funny, but that sort of humor is not appropriate in a deathbed scene.

Another great Rosie Clarke story.

I love the Mulberry Lane books and I love Rosie Clarke's style of writing. However, the narrator is so off putting, it should be a crime. She pauses in the wrong places making sentences disjointed, some of the characters sound like they are drugged up because of the way she voices them, they slur and speak like they haven't any social skills. I've never wanted to switch to an actual book just so I didn't have to listen to the awful narration before, but this particular narrator had me feeling that way more than once. I definitely won't be buying any more audio books that cite narration by this one.

Awful narration

Have not listened to all of this as the narration is dreadful. It would be ok if the narrator did not try and put on dreadful accents. I found this too unbearable to listen too

dreadful narration

these are lovely stories but i have now given up with the series as the narration is awful. the voices are grating, everyone including the young doctor speaks as if they are a six year old with intellectual impairment. sentences are ended in intonation then words tagged on as the narrator turns the page. there are irritating mispronounciations throughout the series 'eddie' instead of 'Edie', 'woodbins' instead of 'woodbines', 'fracass' instead of 'fracas'. I'll purchase the rest of the series when the narrator is changed. why isn't there a system of 'proof listening' as there would be for the written text? has the author heard this narration? they surely cant be happy to hear the dialogue converted to such unlistenable irritation.

Had to stop the series!

Such a shame, I have listened to all the series up to now, but the narrator is so awful, I’m giving up half way through this book. The storyline is good, but the characters are now unlistenable & I wish they wouldn’t talk!!

Disappointed

I quite enjoyed the book but it was hugely spoilt by the narrator. Maureen sounded like an imbecile, Abel droned on so much I had to speed it up. Don’t get me started on the Alice voice. I’ve never taken so long to listen to a book, but as I’d listened to all the other mulberry lane books I persevered.

Terrible Narration. Good story.

I’ve been reading the Mulberry Lane series. It’s an excellent read. However, the audible books are terrible due to the poor narration.
