Decluttering our homes can be difficult.

Letting go of things can be challenging.

Living with less seems impossible.

With wit and tough love, Stop Buying Bins seeks to break down the obstacles that tether us to our possessions. Why do we hold onto belongings that no longer serve us? How do we change our perspective regarding our things? And once we've tackled those questions, how do we go about actually downsizing our clutter?

Told through individual client stories, Stop Buying Bins reveals the personality traits that create resistance to letting go, flips the switch on assigning value to objects, and provides step-by-step instructions on how to decide what goes and what to do with it.

Stop Buying Bins will have you coming to terms with some hard truths about your stuff as you realize you'll enjoy what you have more if you have less.

I’m enjoying this book. At least one or more of the stories she shares are bound to apply. She asks really good questions and she’s all about helping people create a personally maintainable space. Even though I have done visualization as it pertains to my creative practice, I’ve finally been able to do it in regards to my living space.
I’ve purchased or listened to just about every book on decluttering and I’ve gained some good tips over the years, but this book is at the top of the charts!
( Boy, this sounds like a review…I think I’ll post it on Audible…something I have NEVER done.)

The author is a professional home organizer and this short book is full of practical tips for downsizing your belongings and efficiently managing your everyday life. What I found especially helpful was the advice on how to get motivated to begin large projects (for example: in the smallest room, and only for half an hour) and let your success help build momentum.

The use of scenarios from the author's own business personalized the information and kept my interest. In some cases her clients were so disorganized that their mental health was suffering.

I enjoyed the tone of the book which, while mostly serious, was often humorous, especially in the dialogue between the author and her clients. The narrator was excellent, and portrayed the various tones appropriately. This made for a very enjoyable listening experience.

Good advice for procrastinators, with some humor

I wish I had found this sooner. With very little thought and effort, I emptied 7 bins by getting rid of the junk and consolidating what was left. That's just the beginning. I keep coming back as I have time. I am constantly reducing the number of bins I "need". Also, make sure you get all your duplicates together, then go through them. I had no idea how many of the same thing I had lying around taking up space and keeping me from being organized.

I found this book researching how to organize bins

Great book , easy to follow. I wish the book was a bit longer, definitely a quick read that I can refer back to when needed

Helpful tips

While this book had a lot of practical and useful ideas and solutions that I can definitely see myself using throughout my downsizing, I did find a bit too much frilly, background storytelling of different scenarios. It almost seemed to be excessive, judgy, and mostly unnecessary.
I also found the narrator to be a downside. To me, the narrator's voice was irritating and overly dramatizing. She tried to imitate "voices" when conveying conversation passages, making for a very condescending almost scolding manner. This aspect made listening to this selection very tedious.

Great information and practical solutions, but...

Where do I start? First off it's mostly Her, trying to sound like she isn't bragging whilst bragging about how well she runs her business and handles her clients. It doesn't help that on top of that the narrator kinda digs into that and sounds fairly pretentious. With the way it's written she really nailed it. Bonus that it's not anything you haven't heard before. Several times she says things like "I would never judge" before, or in the middle of a rant on how bad this or that clients habits or habitat were. She then talks about how masterfully and perfectly she handles everything. Even when she is trying to say she could have done better it's always more like could have been better then the perfect that it was. Basically she should just take out an ad for her business and save herself the trouble of writing this whole book. Sorry, just rubbed me the wrong way. I would suggest if your trying to write a book to help people get outta of a rut, highlighting how perfect you seem to yourself might not get them motivated.

Yikes. Sorry in advance, but not for me
