Authors prejudice shines through

Many books in this genre seem to fall flat after the first few chapters. This one held my interest through most of it. The portrayal of the UN I found seemed to diverge so much from the ineffectual history of the UN that I find the book falls into fantasy. Sure, it's fiction, but the behavior of the gangs and the UN troops are unbelievable and I felt it detracted from this story.

In order for this story to work, nearly all of the federal, state, and local law enforcement troops would need to fall in lockstep with a tyrannical government.

I also find the sister and her husband's involvement in the story a detraction and just a plot device to support a preachy author. They are uninteresting and there simply to be hated in the most moronic ways.

The author(s) has skills. Good storytelling. Bad story. But he/they are held back by their desire to preach in the most infuriating ways. However, compared to the trash that infests this genre it's less horrible than the rest.

Loved

I loved the characters and this book. I’m hoping there will be a third book in this series. I would recommend this book.

Series I will continue to follow

Love the the ex-military characters. Story is good and quite possible now days. The only con with this is the way the preteen kids seem to be able to get into military ways. Not sure that would be possible except maybe in weapon use. I mean it takes soldiers training to get proficient in the ways of war. But a good listen nonetheless.
