Kiss him. Don't fall in love. Break a spell with a kiss. Karina has heard and seen enough weird stuff for this request to sound legit. At 16, Karina has a shot at adventure--and an odd first kiss - when she's called to Whyland, a kingdom in another dimension, to save a guy she barely knows. Why her? No clue, but she's happy to help, and kissing Sian isn't torture, even if he isn't to be trusted. Karina's smart enough not to fall in love - or at least to tell herself not to. Once in Whyland, she realizes that risking a broken heart is the smallest of her problems.

Story
For the Elves, it's the very worst time to be in the woods. Trolls are hunting them down. Will they live long enough to reach a safe place to live? Oisin’s plan is to come with his bow to help Aedan and Doona lead a party of children into the forest to gather the maidenhair seedlings his people would take across the sea as they flee the trolls who hunt them as prey. Maybe he can be back in time for supper. And if he only dares to dream, he might also be back in time to speak with Doona alone.

Some stories tiptoe up and whisper in your ear - all sweetness and gumdrops and happy-ever-after-after-there-you-go. Then, there are the weird ones. We're talking talking-chickens, blue plague spam monkeys, tug boats of unbridled and fetid fecundity, tulwar-swinging cab drivers, malls that maul you, gnawing on screwdrivers and jig-lining elder gods coming at you faster than a ride-on mow-down massacre mower shopping cart caravan. This is a collection for the seriously messed up minds of all you listeners who have grown tired of the trite detritus of day-to-day storytelling.

Publisher's Summary
Not special. Not chosen. But she's got magical shoes.
Fourteen-year old Karina doesn’t know what she wants, but knows what she’s found - fascinating silver shoes. Fascinating, dangerous, and potentially evil. On the upside, they do bring cool visitors. When a princess invites her to go to Whyland and save her kingdom, of course she accepts. There’s that little “let’s destroy the shoes” detail she’s not crazy about, but hey, free trip, alternate world.
But Whyland is nothing like she expected. Karina finds herself stuck in a kingdom she doesn’t understand, with no clue on who to trust. Before saving anyone, she’d better save herself - if she figures out how.
To make matters worse, as much as the princess is fierce, determined, and brave, she'll jeopardize everything just to reconnect with her boyfriend, almost boyfriend, or whatever. And that might just be their doom.
Step into Magic is a fun YA portal fantasy adventure. If you like books with strong heroines, friendships between girls, subtle romance, and some mystery, you've found your book.
This is narrated in close third person with very snappy/sarcastic character voices.

A great read
A story full of magic, trust, evil & friendship. Imagine buying a pair of shoes at a yard sale and then find out they are magic. Karina gets pulled into another dimension and her journey does not go as planned. She makes great friends along the way but still has a task to complete. I liked this story & the narrator did a great job.

Fun Listen
What more could you ask for but to go to another world and take an adventure? I think this is a good book for young preteens or teens. It has action and adventure for a young person to enjoy. The narrator does a good job bringing the story to life with words. I really enjoyed it even if it was for a younger set. I would recommend to my granddaughter in about two years.

Magic
Step into Magic was a great first start of the series, we were introduced to many characters and places. We followed the girls as they carried the magic shoes through the kingdom to save life as they knew it, only the find out things aren’t what they seemed. It was a good set up to the series, and I am curious as to what happens next in the series.

Step into Magic literally.
The first few lines of the book truly captured my attention. Perhaps half way through I got a bit overwhelmed with the number of new characters and not sure if they will be apart of the next installment. The main character Karina, at times can be a bit annoying. I’m sure the narrator plays a part in that as well. The narration was mediocre and I struggled with her narration. I had to increase the speed of narration to 2.0 so that the voices wouldn’t be a distraction to the story for me. I would recommend this book for teens 12+ especially if they enjoy alternate worlds and a bit of fantasy.

Interesting
This was a fun book, but the narrator drove me crazy. At times she sounded like a teenager, which worked well for the teenage characters, but did NOT work well for the adult males. She has some really irritating accents as well. She pronounces several words very interestingly, such as “girls-es” when speaking of something belonging to a group of girls. Overall, I’d rather not listen to her again.
The story itself is pretty good. It is definitely geared toward teens or preteens. The adventures of the characters are pretty improbable, but it is a work of fiction, so that’s ok. I don’t know that I’ll be in a hurry to read more from this author, but I’d recommend this book to a youngster that is interested in stories involving alternate realities.

I kept wanting to find out how it would all resolv
I really enjoyed this story. There was continually enough mystery and suspense that I wanted to keep going and find out what would happen next and what was really going on. You were never totally sure who is the good guy and who is the bad guy, or are some of them kind of good and kind of bad...? That made it fun.

My Honest Review
this is fun and engaging story, full of wonder, a fairytale like story that keeps you entranced from beginning to end. I would recommend this book for others to read or listen too if they enough fun and fantasy.
my only bad point about this story is that the niavity and gullibility of the characters are more middle grade genre than young adult 13+, a small thing I know but it still wrankled me ☺
