Welcome to Start By Listening! We are excited to have you on this journey with us toward healing and transformation. Start By Listening is a podcast about sexual harm, trauma and advocacy. Season Four is upon us! We are taking SBL to the community and speaking with various groups and people on the traumas they encounter in their part of the community and asking how they may want their organization to address trauma survivors in the future. This season, we will be delivering exceptional conversations and creative ideas while creating a safe space for connection and thoughtful experiences. We are going beyond sexual harm and really asking, "What does trauma look like and what does this experience look like for the Western Kentucky communities we serve?" We will be talking with various community members, and delving into difficult conversations where trauma intersects our communities and people. Season Four finds us growing and changing how we do our work.

In this episode, New Beginnings podcasters Jennifer, The Friendly Therapist, and Shelby, Victim Advocate take the time to talk about Social Work Appreciation Month as both recount their journey on the road of social work.

In this episode, New Beginnings podcasters Jennifer, The Friendly Therapist, and Shelby, Victim Advocate take the time to talk with Crystal Wall and Bekah Gibbs our amazing Prevention Educators. They are always on the go traveling to local schools presenting information about body safety/autonomy and boundaries.

Bekah Gibbs - Hey y’all! I’ve been with New Beginnings for 3 years as a violence prevention middle school educator. I grew up in a small town where it seemed like violence, terrible as it is, just seemed normal. I knew I wanted to do my part in making this world a safer place. I received my bachelor's degree in social work in 2019 and my life mission began! Thanks for listening! If you are in the GRADD region and want our middle school program in your school, send us an email.

Crystal Wall - Crystal Wall is the Prevention Educator for New Beginnings. She is responsible for the Play It Safe program and Internet Safety program for elementary schools. She has been doing the program for 5 years in the elementary schools. Crystal earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Western Kentucky University in 2002. She has been with New Beginnings since 2016.
