For the handful of scattered Jedi, survival is imperative if the light side of the Force is to be protected and the galaxy somehow, someday reclaimed. Yet more important still is the well-being of the twin infants, Leia and Luke Skywalker, the children of Anakin and his doomed bride, Padme Amidala. Winter is coming. Such is the stern motto of House Stark, the northernmost of the fiefdoms that owe allegiance to King Robert Baratheon in far-off King's Landing. There Eddard Stark of Winterfell rules in Robert's name. Far to the north, behind the towering Wall, lie savage Wildings and worse - unnatural things relegated to myth during the centuries-long summer, but proving all too real and all too deadly in the turning of the season. Yet a more immediate threat lurks to the south, where Jon Arryn, the Hand of the King, has died under mysterious circumstances....

Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter. It has been centuries since the fall of the 10 consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor.

Publisher's Summary
The embattled Republic reels from the attacks of Grand Admiral Thrawn, who has marshaled the remnants of the Imperial forces and driven the Rebels back with an abominable technology recovered from the Emperor's secret fortress: clone soldiers.
As Thrawn mounts his final siege, Han and Chewbacca struggle to form a coalition of smugglers for a last-ditch attack against the empire. Leia holds the Alliance together and prepares for the birth of her Jedi twins.
Overwhelmed by the ships and clones at Thrawn's command, the New Republic has one last hope: sending a small force, led by Luke Skywalker, into the stronghold that houses Thrawn's terrible cloning machines. There a final danger awaits, as the Dark Jedi C'baoth directs the battle against the Rebels and builds his strength to finish what he has already started: the destruction of Luke Skywalker.

Anthony Daniels KILLS it again
Is there anything you would change about this book?
As with book 2, I enjoy Timothy Zahn's writing and I feel he very much captures the flavor of the Star Wars universe. Anthony Daniels narration was in my opinion nothing short of terrible. The strange inflections and tones attributed to characters was laughable and painful in spots (the way he portrays Joruus C'Baoth was horrendous). Also to add his pronunciations (such as CHIMERA being pronounced Ki-MOO-rah) really took away from the book. It was rather painful to get through, but I wanted to finish out the trilogy.
Also as with book 2 the abridgement was a bit choppy, but in this book it really felt like there were huge gaps left in the story that made it seem inplausible.
Would you ever listen to anything by Timothy Zahn again?
Yes
Would you be willing to try another one of Anthony Daniels’s performances?
Absolutely not.

Love the book, dislike the abridged part
This trilogy by Zahn is what brought Star Wars back into our collective conscience. Why then are his audio books abridged? I love the story, and I love being able to listen to it on my iPod at the gym, but slightly disappointed in not being able to listen to the entire work as Zahn originally penned it. It's still a good listen, even though it leaves out half the book. It would be awesome though, if there were radio drama style, unabridged, versions of his books.

Good, but why waste time creating abridged books?
The story is ok and well performed, but I just don't understand why publishers waste time creating abridged books. By not needing to use your eyes, your reading time is greatly expanded. Abridging is a travesty to begin with - even made worst by doing it on this format...and then not even offering the unabridged version. I don't see how any abridged book can get higher than a mediocre rating.

Good story that needed better Narrator
I loved the first book and narration, the 2nd book wasn’t a good story and narration wasn’t great. Anthony Daniels iconic voice of 3PO is always great, but doesn’t translate to other characters. This book would’ve been a lot better with a different narrator.

Wow. This is horrible.
The narration by Denis Lawson on Part 1 & 2 was very good, but the narration by Anthony Daniels in part 3 is like listening to a leprechan inhaling helium. Totally ruins the last book, I'm having a hard time listening to it. I thought it was a woman's voice until I checked the details of the audio book. Then I thought the speed was set too high, but that was also not the problem. Sure, he nails C-3PO, but every other character and even the background sounds have a lack of bass and too much treble. Maybe it is the mix on the audio that is the problem? Either way after 40 minutes of torture I'm not sure I can suffer through to the end of the first chapter.

A great book but needs updating
As always, Timothy Zahn lays out a great story. My only issue is that after 20+ years I feel it needs a rewrite. So many details about thrawn don’t correlate and it needs to be read by Mark Thompson and the team behind the latest Thrawn books
Anthony Daniels does a good job but having listened to the rest of the Thrawn books I find myself disappointed at this edition now.
