Publisher's summary

The troubles for the embattled living planet Zonama Sekot have just begun. As Luke Skywalker and Jacen Solo negotiate its place in the galactic struggle against the Yuuzhan Vong, one of its organic ships is taken by the alien invaders. Scientist Nen Yim is ordered to use the captive to find weak spots in Zonama Sekot's technology. But what Nen Yim discovers about the planet and its mysteries shocks her to the core. Clearly her people have gone terribly astray. For the peace-loving planet harbors not only the key to its own destruction, but the long-forgotten secrets of the Yuuzhan Vong themselves.

Meanwhile, General Wedge Antilles, commanding one fleet in a three-pronged campaign to retake the Bilbringi system, is suddenly stranded deep in Yuuzhan Vong space, cut off from all contact. Wedge and his ships must rely on trickery and brilliant battle tactics if they are to survive long enough to ensure the success of one of the deadliest and most crucial missions the Galactic Alliance forces have ever seen.

Critic reviews

"Sound effects and music, played throughout under Jonathan Davis's narration, never overpower the work and help achieve the heroic tone of the Star Wars oeuvre. Davis does a fabulous job narrating the action-packed story, providing distinct voices for all of the major characters." (AudioFile)

The best entry in the entire series?

Again, this one is far too heavily condensed to be fully satisfying. But the story is strong enough in this book that it can withstand most of the squish.

The mysteries behind the entire story are mostly revealed here, and it makes even listening to Force Heretic II worth it. Tahiri has become a great character, and Nen Yim, Harrar, and Nom Anor go to the next level. This book really sets the Star Wars universe up for entire series' of adventures after NJO - though LucasArts squandered the opportunity entirely, making the Disney takeover of the books not quite as tragic as it would have been.

The narration is great - Jonathan Davis is the best narrator in the series. Of course, nothing compares to the classic radio style of the Dark Forces.

Too short

Everything was what you would expect from this series except the length. 1 through 3 parts should have been only parts.
