don't do character voices

I found the expression. by the artist great a d imagined being in front of a fire enraptured being told a great story but.....his character voices were not great. don't try an English accent (rey) unless you can do it. tough ask , I know. but could have been direct better. overall o enjoyed a lot

Loved it, well read and good sound effects

obviously not everyone is a Star Wars fan but having listened to Star Wars audiobooks for well over 10 years, I would rate this amongst the top 5. I loved the story and thought it was well read and had great sound effects.

loved it

If u think characters should get old and change due to life experiences like everyone else? This is for u. If your lookin for a comic book, one dimensional hero who never gets old or fucks up (or slips!lol) then skywalker in last jedi ain't for you.

Great addition to the film

Really well good audiobook. All the character voices were spot on, except Snoke is a bit deeper than the film. Great job.

More complete than the movie.

Improves on the story in the movie

Great narration.

Do wish they’d drop some of the sound effects library, footsteps not required !!

Great story, well read with awful sound effects

The story is well written and well read but the sound effects are annoying at best and at times they get in the way of the reader's ability to hear the story at all. Frankly, the soundeffects ruin what would otherwise be a great book.

Wow. So dull.

Bought this as reviews suggested it might fix or mitigate some of the films story failings. Instead it drew it out in the most pondrous over elaborated manner. Nearly two hours in we were getting to the end of the bombing run on the bigger-same-as ship. The narration is very good. The character voices excellent. if you loved the film (really?) you'll probably love this. If you saw a wide universe generally wasted this is that but much slower, longer, tedious.

Basically? Ugh.

Marc Thompson can't do female characters. (Spoilers)

Marc Thompson should not be allowed to do female characters. He made Heir to the Jedi a very difficult listen and he is at it again here, particularly when he attempts an English accent. The Prologue, which I felt was utterly pointless, features a voice similar to the female lead in Heir to the Jedi and I admit I struggled with his vocalisations for the remainder of the production. Leia, Holdo, Rey and Rose were weak, grating and cringe-worthy (Ok, so he got Rose spot on). To be fair, his Luke is excellent both young and old. I was looking forward to listening to the Han Solo novel Last Shot on Audible but I see Thompson is involved. My only hope is that with January LaVoy also listed she'll be taking on the female roles. LaVoy was superb in Phasma for all characters.

As for the story itself, for me, not a great Star Wars story. I was hoping the novelisation would expand on certain aspects where the film failed to do so but not much was offered and what was, was pretty grim. Rey's force-power download for. Kylo? A couple of sentences referring to earlier days of the First Order are about the only highlight. Thankfully the Rey and Luke dance scene was dropped from the film! Yikes.

To finish on a positive note I was glad that Leia and Chewy finally hugged it out!

solid story

as a massive Star Wars fan who knows the timelines, this story is a bit disappointing..
but.. as a new franchise it is a solid story and the book explains far better than the movie.
