Publisher's Summary

The Republic is decaying, even under the leadership of Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, who was elected to save the galaxy from collapsing under the forces of discontent.

On the tiny but strategic planet of Ansion, a powerful faction is on the verge of joining the growing secessionist movement. At the Chancellor's request, the Jedi Council sends two Jedi Knights, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Luminara Unduli, along with their Padawans Anakin Skywalker and Barriss Offee, to stabilize the planet's population. To succeed, the Jedi will have to fulfill near-impossible tasks, befriend wary strangers, and influence two great armies - stalked all the while by an enemy sworn to see the negotiations collapse and the mission fail.

Critic Reviews

"The best things are the new creations. The landscape and animal life of Ansion is wonderfully described. . . .[along with] some excellent fight scenes and a display of lightsaber gymnastics." (SFX magazine)
"Foster delves into the internal conflict of Anakin Skywalker and the psyche of the Jedi." (USA Today)
"Adams reads expertly and confidently, and his storytelling powers flow with Jedi force." (AudioFile)

The Mission Before Episode II

This was a nice book. The story takes place immediately before Attack of the Clones, and has Obi-wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker attempting to prevent a system from seceding from the Republic alongside Luminara Unduli and Bariss Offee. The characters have some interesting moments, and the interactions feel genuine. However, if you are hoping for a grand story, this isn't the book for you. The conflict is major, though its solution is minor, and the book pads out the short mission by having the Jedi travel through the wilderness. Not much happens throughout the novel, and the antagonists are quite forgettable. If not for the Jedi cast it could've been dropped. It's a shame nothing of value really happened, because putting a cast of Jedi in a mission right before the eruption of the Clone Wars could have been far more interesting and fun. The narrator was good, but his performance wasn't as good as some other narrators. Not to say he was bad, because he wasn't. But someone like Marc Thompson or Jonathan Davis would have made it a little more enjoyable.

The EU

This story is by far superior to any of the new films. With music, sound effects, good voice acting. Who needs more anti films? #amazing #longdrive #entertaining.

Sooooo boring!!

I thought this book wasss sooooooo boring!! Omg.. the plot sucked! The narrator was good as always, but the story line was just awful. The only thing I did like was tooqi character I thought was funny. That’s pretty much it.

Good story bad sound effects

In the Attack Of the Clones, Palpatine mentions this mission. Great reading and great writing really engages you to the story. Unfortunately the sound effects really ruin some parts of the story. That stupid bird went on for like an hour. But I got to know Barris and her Master well. The scene when they are proving them selves would make great T.V. to bad the sound effects we're too loud and went on for too long.

Not worth your time

Not worth it...don’t do it...spend your time and money on a good one like dearth bane, the dark lord, weapon of the Jedi or the novelization of episode III (way better then the movie)
