NATIONAL BESTSELLER • After Revenge of the Sith, a newly forged Darth Vader hunts for the secrets of life and death under the watchful eye of Emperor Palpatine.

In the wake of Emperor Palpatine’s rise to power, the true nature of his most sinister enforcer remains a mystery. Darth Vader is a dominant yet illusive figure: the shadow cast by a malignant Imperial regime, unknowable to even its top officials. But even as his humanity gives way to myth, Vader remains haunted by the promises of the dark side, seeking the ultimate power that his master has hinted at but withheld—the power to conquer death itself.

On the volcanic world of Mustafar, Vader undertakes a dark ritual, bleeding a kyber crystal to forge his lightsaber. This act unleashes a power far greater than he anticipated, giving him a glimpse into the limitless potential of the Force.

Vader is determined to follow this vision, even if it means defying his master’s orders. Yet he finds the Emperor suspiciously supportive of his mission, even sending Vader to the Diso system to investigate rumors of a Force-wielding shaman able to raise the dead. At his side are a cadre of the Emperor’s scarlet-robed Royal Guard, led by Colonel Halland Goth—a decorated soldier with a very personal interest in Vader’s mission.

Even as the Emperor’s true motivations reveal themselves, Vader falls deeper into obsession. His journey takes him far across the galaxy, chasing rumors and phantoms. But no matter how far he travels, he cannot escape the shadows within his own soul. Haunted by the echoes of his past, Vader circles the true resolution to his quest: only once all weakness is purged can he become a master of evil.

it was just so lack luster. I found myself daydreaming about my work life at a few points waiting for the next part, cause I knew I can't miss any good lore moments (which there a few). Marc Thompson is a shining beacon in the star wars narration world

vader book with no vader

The story was okay but didn't do anything to add to the lore. Marc’s performance was one of the best ever. Marc brings the extra layers of emotion and makes you fully feel what the characters are going through. I even love the corporate leader that I wanted to throat punch because Marc made that voice so creaking annoying. Thanks to all who made this work possible.

Story is good but the performance was excellent

My first concern was over-using Marc Thompson, he is without a doubt the best Narrator in Star Wars with incredible range but when one person narrates several dozen Star Wars Books the voices begin to sound the same. HOWEVER, within the first opening Sentence it was clear that Marc was the man for this book, and then adding Catherine Tabor in for Padme's voice? Incredible production and decision making!!!

Onto the story itself, Interesting perspective set 2 years after ROTS, I liked the main character, I really liked that this was a single contained story and didn't have any galaxy shattering events in it! Also every loose end was well tied up by the end of the Story.

My favorite part, was including the perspective from Commander Appo after the war, a perspective we haven't seen in any other Star Wars Media, loved that!

COMMANDER APPO MENTIONED!!

While not completely from Vader's point of view, he is the lead character here. I rather like the new characters that are introduced, and the novel, in a first for Star Wars, does an incredible job at gothic horror, and great detail as well. Marc Thompson, is, as usual, in top form as narrator, making me look forward to future novels he'll narrate.

An excellent perspective

Helps make sense of Vader’s transformation between ep3 and ep4. Like when did he become heartless or give up on the goal of of saving padme. That kind of stuff. Told well and with another remarkable performance by Marc Thompson. There’s a lot of story told from an original character perspective but always as a means of providing more insight into the fledgling empire and Vader’s story.

Great fill in the blank between ep3 and 4
