NATIONAL BESTSELLER • After Revenge of the Sith, a newly forged Darth Vader hunts for the secrets of life and death under the watchful eye of Emperor Palpatine.

In the wake of Emperor Palpatine’s rise to power, the true nature of his most sinister enforcer remains a mystery. Darth Vader is a dominant yet illusive figure: the shadow cast by a malignant Imperial regime, unknowable to even its top officials. But even as his humanity gives way to myth, Vader remains haunted by the promises of the dark side, seeking the ultimate power that his master has hinted at but withheld—the power to conquer death itself.

On the volcanic world of Mustafar, Vader undertakes a dark ritual, bleeding a kyber crystal to forge his lightsaber. This act unleashes a power far greater than he anticipated, giving him a glimpse into the limitless potential of the Force.

Vader is determined to follow this vision, even if it means defying his master’s orders. Yet he finds the Emperor suspiciously supportive of his mission, even sending Vader to the Diso system to investigate rumors of a Force-wielding shaman able to raise the dead. At his side are a cadre of the Emperor’s scarlet-robed Royal Guard, led by Colonel Halland Goth—a decorated soldier with a very personal interest in Vader’s mission.

Even as the Emperor’s true motivations reveal themselves, Vader falls deeper into obsession. His journey takes him far across the galaxy, chasing rumors and phantoms. But no matter how far he travels, he cannot escape the shadows within his own soul. Haunted by the echoes of his past, Vader circles the true resolution to his quest: only once all weakness is purged can he become a master of evil.

while a catfish about vader being the main character while he is not. the story revolves around him and gives a unique insight into what it was like to be around him definitely a dark and gritty story it shows how ruthless vader is what lengths he will go to to get what he wants the fear he instilled in others the story follows a royal guard and a few other characters and some points of the story are from vaders perspective but mostly it follows the royal guard while disappointing that its not all from vaders perspective its still a great story one of the best of the star wars books I have listened to. alot of the other reviews are very biased if you can get past the fact that this is not from vaders perspective. like it makes it look like in the summary and cover its a great listen or read. would have given it a 5 star if they didn't attempt to catfish

unique perspective

While I understand that many fans are unhappy with this book because it is not a book told mainly from Darth Vader’s first person perspective this is a “Vader” novel in my opinion. I did appreciate the first person perspective chapters that the author gave to us like Chapter 2 and when he enters the Force Locus/Vergence in the middle and towards the end of the book. These parts of the book gave me a new perspective on Vader and what is going on in his brain inside of the helmet. It reminded me there is a human (well, somewhat) inside of that suit. He struggles with the outcomes of his decisions from the events of Revenge of the Sith, so he clings to the Dark Side even more, searching for the ultimate understanding of what it means to master the Dark Side of the Force. Halland Goth as a main character is fascinating because it gives the audience a new perspective into the Royal Guard, previously the dudes in the sweet red suits and masks guarding the Emperor but tat were always silent and revealing nothing about their character. TC-99 is also a great character and the bond between he and Goth feels more like a bond between brothers and not a human and a droid. All in all, I loved the book. Though, like many I craved more first person perspective from Vader but I also think that is part of his mystique. I highly recommend this book to new or experienced SWU readers!

it was just so lack luster. I found myself daydreaming about my work life at a few points waiting for the next part, cause I knew I can't miss any good lore moments (which there a few). Marc Thompson is a shining beacon in the star wars narration world

vader book with no vader
