Publisher's Summary

The turning point for the entire Star Wars saga is at hand.

After years of civil war, the Separatists have battered the already faltering Republic nearly to the point of collapse. On Coruscant, the Senate watches anxiously as Supreme Chancellor Palpatine aggressively strips away more and more constitutional liberties in the name of safeguarding the Republic. Yoda, Mace Windu, and their fellow Masters grapple with the Chancellor's disturbing move to assume control of the Jedi Council. And Anakin Skywalker, the prophesied Chosen One, destined to bring balance to the Force, is increasingly consumed by his fear that his secret love, Senator Padme Amidala, will die.

As the combat escalates across the galaxy, the stage is set for an explosive endgame: Obi-Wan undertakes a perilous mission to destroy the dreaded Separatist military leader General Grievous. Palpatine, eager to secure even greater control, subtly influences public opinion to turn against the Jedi. And a conflicted Anakin, tormented by unspeakable visions, edges dangerously closer to the brink of a galaxy-shaping decision. It remains only for Darth Sidious, whose shadow looms ever larger, to strike the final staggering blow against the Republic, and to ordain a fearsome new Sith Lord: Darth Vader.

Great book for Star Wars fans!

I'm a huge Star Wars fan, and I have seen all 6 movies several times. I was looking into Star Wars books telling stories not told in the movies, but except for a couple of them, all Star Wars books available as audiobooks are abridged versions. I know you lose lots of the details in these versions, so out of curiosity I bought this one, even though I had already seen the movie. I was very surprised with the quality of the narration, and the quality of the story as well. The book adds lots of insights and details that would've been impossible to include in a 2 hr movie. Special effects are good, but nowhere excessive, and actually help in visualizing the story. Overall, I'm very happy I bought it!

"Impressive! Most Impressive!"

Any Star Wars fan will know, the title of this review is a quote from 'The Empire Strikes Back', spoken by Darth Vader during his first battle with Luke Skywalker. \"Impressive\" just doesn't do this book justice though, it is utterly superb.

The Jedi battle with Dooku on the separatist flagship, the deepening darkness on Coruscant and in The Republic, the rising fear within Anakin Skywalker, the twisted inner-workings of the minds of Count Dooku, Darth Sidious, and General Grievous....All these things (and more) feed your imagination, and open-up the Star Wars Universe, like never before.

On top of this, the narration is masterful, almost an art, which brings the story to life in such a way, you could almost be there.

Amazing book, and well worth buying. I thoroughly enjoyed this, and wil do so again, I have no doubt of that :-)

The definitive version of the Revenge of the Sith.

Get it, it's every bit as good as the Darth Bane trilogy and Plagueis .

A must listen

A remarkable improvement on the film, the same story, but with the time taken to flesh out each beat. Brilliantly performed narration and sfx.

Superbly written and performed

I thoroughly enjoyed the Revenge of the Sith novelisation. The writing was superb, almost poetic. It greatly improved the dialog from nearly all scenes of the film, and gave a much better insight into the character's feelings, and motives. Anakin's fall is much more understandable, although one glaring omission was his perspective on killing the Jedi and younglings, which was disappointing. The extra material not covered by the film was also sound, particularly the beginnings of the Rebel Alliance, and the conflict between Anakin and Padme's political views. I wish this had been the basis for the film, and not the other way around.

Very good story, not so good voice acting

The book is purely amazing story wise. It expands so much on the movie and gives you valuable insight into the characters and scenarios from the movie. It develops them further and really gets you to care about them before the ultimate climax. I now finally understand why people always say that the books are better than the movies for any given franchise.

Now the narration. Jonathan is a good narrator, don't get me wrong. He reads with passion, know what words to emphasise and has a pleasant voice. My problem is with the voice acting. Very few voices were even remotely close. Master Yoda seemed like a bit of a jerk with the voice that he has given, and Grievous didn't seem the least bit intimidating. He sounded more like a butler droid than a sadistic killing machine.

[SPOILER]
The scene on Mustafar where Obi Wan says that Anakin was supposed to bring balance to the force, and that he was his brother are read in a casual voice and thus loses its emotional impact.
[END OF SPOILER]

Overall, I promise it's worth the read, even if you'll have to replace some of the voices in your head.

An Excellent Companion to the Film.

Goes into far more depth than the film's time constraints would allow, fleshing out the story and giving it new dimensions in far more interesting ways. Stover's understanding of the characters and wider Star Wars media is on full display in one of the best Star Wars books. Though this is part of the 'Legends' continuity (with many references to other Star Wars media) and no longer deemed 'canon', I would nevertheless recommend to any Star Wars fan interested in publishing.

Johnathon Davis' narration is stellar and haunting at times with Stover's prose. Though some of the voices are a little off, this is a minor issue.

Loved it!

I feel like this book brought so much more to the movies, so much more depth, and GOOD DIALOGUE. I loved how I already had the visuals from the movies and now I got the depth. Thank you!

better than the film... just.

As is well known, Revenge of the Sith the film was problematic to say the least. This novelisation does the story more justice, attempting to delve deeper into Anakin's decent. Although far from hole-less, Matthew Stover has done an excellent job at giving voice to Anakin's inner turmoil and the general plot of the story. I recommend this to all the hardcore Star Wars fans.
