Story
Across the galaxy, the Clone Wars are raging. The Separatists, led by Count Dooku, the onetime Jedi and now secret Sith Lord, continue to press forward, and more and more worlds are either falling, or seceding and joining the cause. Under the leadership of Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, the Republic heroically battles on, championed by its huge army of cloned soldiers and their Jedi generals. Anakin Skywalker, believed by some to be the prophesied “Chosen One” destined to bring balance to the Force, is now a Jedi Knight under the tutelage of his Jedi Master, Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Story
For the handful of scattered Jedi, survival is imperative if the light side of the Force is to be protected and the galaxy somehow, someday reclaimed. Yet more important still is the well-being of the twin infants, Leia and Luke Skywalker, the children of Anakin and his doomed bride, Padme Amidala. Separated after Padme's death, they must be made safe at all costs, lest the hope they represent for the future be turned to horror by the new Sith regime, and the unspeakable power of the dark side.

Publisher's Summary
The attack on Senator Amidala just before a crucial vote thrusts the Republic even closer to the edge of disaster. Masters Yoda and Mace Windu sense enormous unease. The dark side is growing, clouding the Jedi's perception of the events. Unbeknownst to the Jedi, a slow rumble is building into the roar of thousands of soldiers readying for battle. But even as the Republic falters around them, Anakin and Padme find a connection so intense that all else begins to fall away. Anakin will lose himself. and his way, in emotions a Jedi, sworn to hold allegiance only to the Order, is forbidden to have.
Based on the story by George Lucas and the screenplay by George Lucas and Jonathan Hales, this intense and revealing novel by best-selling author R.A. Salvatore sheds new light on the legend of Star Wars, and skillfully illuminates one of our most beloved sagas.
Critic Reviews
"Actor Jonathan Davis gives the characters American or British accents, depending on the nationality of the actors in the film version, and these characters are so on-target as to make the drama entirely believable." (AudioFile)

Don't hate! Appreciate!!
For those who continually find fault with the prequel films, please direct your attention to the wonderful novels that accompany the ever critiqued stories of Anakin Skywalker. The much needed insight into the motivations of the prequel characters are found within this recording. Here the love between the main leads is explained and becomes a romantically intriguing example of young love, as opposed to awkward and uncomfortable. Here one is able to see that thematically the idea of "clones" transcends that of just cloned troopers. There are wonderful father/son moments between many of the characters that are touching and profound. Read and listen to this wonderful book, then avert your attention to the film to watch with a deeper perspective. You'll be glad you did!

Like the film but better.
If you enjoyed the film you are very likely to enjoy this audiobook. If you have disappointments with the film you will likely view the audiobook as a small step above the film, but you should be aware that it follows the film very closely. It does however give more back story to Anakin’s mother and step family. You will also enjoy character building scenes which include Padme’s family. You will learn more about the characters as you discover their thoughts in addition to what they verbalize. In that way the story is greatly enhanced when compared to the film. For this reason Anakin’s emotions won’t seem quite so superficial or immature. Likewise the love scenes aren’t quite so painfully sappy as they are in the film and I dare say at times they can even be enjoyable. The story in isolation is actually not bad, but when placed in the whole Star Wars Saga one will find it hard to believe this weak, whiny Anakin is the same being who terrifies the galaxy by his mere presence as Darth Vader. All scenes with Obi-Wan are awesome. The book is probably worth listening to just for Obi-Wan and the overall political plot. Jonathan Davis does not disappoint with his performance of all the characters, particularly Obi-Wan, Yoda, and Count Duku.

Poor Jango
I think this is a great companion to the movie, it fills in the little things with Annakin and Padme, her background and family. I like all the nuances you can retrieve from the book where the movie cuts them for time and production reasons. One thing I will say is that the light saber battles get confusing to imagine them and I can only piece together what I recall from the movie to go in its place.
Side Note: I wish Jango made it and I'm glad I got a glimpse into the love for his son (clone). Long Live Boba Fett!!

Much Better Than You Expect
Attack of the Clones is not my favorite film, but I was pleasantly surprised by this novelization of the film. R.A. Salvatore has enhanced the story with depth and fascinating extra insight. The story works much better in book form. The love story between Anakin and Pademê is much more believable here. You also learn more about Qui-Gon's attempted intervention when Anakin had his first slip into the dark side, when even Yoda heard his voice. We also meet Pademê's family and learn a bit more about her home life. Anakin also fared much better in this book, as his inner turmoil is explored more. The state of the Republic and it's decay is noted here, as well as Yoda and Made Windu's realization that the Republic they have sworn to protect is crumbling. Jonathan Davis does a fantastic job on the narration as usual. His Yoda is quite good. This is a great read that Star Wars fans will enjoy, even if you weren't a fan of this particular film.

Excellent narrative
I really enjoyed this version, providing more insight into the characters' thoughts than does the film counterpart. Scenes deleted from the movie were included much to the enhancement of the story. Both author and narrator did an admirable job. I fully recommend.

very well done
this reading was very well done. the reader spoke in the voices of the characters while reading their spoken lines and he did a good job.
there were also sound effects and music presumably from the movie that added nicely to the reading.
